This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

"Geeks trying to get laid?" If they're in SCA, they aren't trying very hard!

(on the other hand, going to Pennsic is very, very cool)
The photos I've seen of the "Pennsic Wars" are pretty amazing.

The SCA doesn't like us very much, as far as I understand. It's kind of like, "You fight with foam weapons? How... quaint."
That's kinda what I think of the SCA.
Just imagine what people like me think about you. :)

Though I do have to say, I foam is good, you can't get TOO hurt.
And never, never, never use metal swords for practicing, NEVER.
Make that any weapon practice for that matter, NEVER.

Oh guys...

You wanna tell me you never heard about LARPS?

I had been playing some since 1990. And it was old then already.

Well... wanna start a discussion if LARPs are great or if they suck? Wanna hear some stories about Larpies who were too sick to stand even for accomplished roleplayers? Wanna hear about DMs who never really noticed that they are not sitting at a table with full control over the game? You like to go camping in full chainmail in rainy weather and look for guys who are lost in a little forest cause they don't find their way home? You wanna sit with your friends around a fire for 14 days, trink more alcohol than your body can stand and wait till something happens? Or till you finally start to play and the DMs tell you it's not possible to kill the enemy cause they need him still right after you did it?

Welcome to LARP.

Btw: Why not practising with metal weapons? It's much more fun than "foaming" around.

So, it's the SCA, but without any of that 'historical research' or 'authenticity' to get in the way of whacking people with sticks?

Actually SCA has nothing to do with historical accuracy. My sister-in-law (and her husband) have graduate degrees in Medieval studies and have declared how poor the SCA research is.

Egad...

Wow, such strong responses. Ah well. I've always been a bit of an advocati diabolus.

(Sorry if I bludgeoned the latin. It's more a hobby than a practice. :D)
