We are still trying to spin the numbers for Serenity to a positive thing. Trying to make us see a funny, good (haven't seen it but heard good things) movie isn't going to help :p

Not spinning, the numbers suck, but what I was showing was look how other movies are just as sucky!

Actually Serenity hasn't done all that badly. $10 mil on opening weekend isn't great, but it was enough for #2 on a weak weekend. (on a strong weekend that would have still netted #3 or #4) It's actually perfroming about the same as your average horror film (and considering how dark the film is that's not a big surprise).
Also on the second week it dropped 50%, which is average for today's films.

All told I'm guessing the film will putter along, make just under $30 mil (US box office) and then sell very well on DVD just as Firefly did.

Anyways, just a few thoughts from a movie geek. :)

I hope you can forgive me for (briefly) derailing your thread. Perhaps I should make another to rave about wallace and Gromitt. :D I just tend to lean toward an animated movie in nearly every situation.

Carry on. Carry on.

I can try to forgive but I never forget :p Animated movies are usally better, the characters are more real than most of the actors out there.

Yeah, Serenity did about as well as I predicted last week - I think it will probably about break even before DVD sales.

Anyway, I'm not surprised that the Shawshank Redpemption did poorly in theaters. I mean, very few people go to the movies to watch prison movies.

I went and saw Corpse Bride myself. My mother enjoys the animation and stuff and seeing as how I haven't taken the poor woman out in a while for some fresh air, it made a pleasant day.

Next up, Wallace and Grommit.

I am quite looking forward to seeing Wallace & Gromit later this week.

As an outsider's perspective, based on what was answered on another thread, I passed along the "you don't really need to know the tv show" recommendation regarding Serenity. So he went to see it. His comment: "I dunno. I felt like I walked in halfway through a story. I didn't know the characters, but was obviously supposed to know their backstory. I felt disconnected from the characters and the events. Obviously I did need to watch the tv show first." Apparently several of his friends felt the same way. I have not personally seen the movie, so I am merely relating second hand. This might be hurting the film, though.
