Thought from the Fool: AAP Sale over, and not a single wish lister bought it...

CSB046 expressed almost exactly the way that I use my wish list also.

Same here. A really good sale/discount will get me to buy something that's been on my wishlist a long time though. For example, Monster Geographica: Underground was on there for a few months, but when it went from $8 to $5 bucks, I grabbed it right up. And I liked it so much I grabbed MG: Marsh & Aquatic as soon as it came out at full price.

And to make a real comment about the subject... :)

You might want to try e-mailing the people who put your product on their wish list when you do have a sale. We do this and get pretty good responses on our sales. It's a gold vendor function, so you may or may not have access to it.

I do also use the wishlist to store small items that can "make up the minimum" when a mid-priced item comes along that I really want.

This is how i use the feature mainly. Once the things on the wish list hit the minimum, i start buying. The problem becomes that after a while, after you've exhausted the supply of small pdfs to "get you over the top", it becomes a search for something that you don't mind buying too much, just to get the one thing you do. It helps that i joined the mailing list, so that when someone releases a new product on RPGNow, i get an email. That helps.

Sales are great, but due to the minimum, present their own problems. Multi-publisher sales can help.

How many of you sell on your own sites?

I like getting mail about new products or sales from RPGNow vendors I've bought from before. That's why I checked the box in my account settings. I like getting new product announcements from them with a preferred customer" discount coupon link even more. :)

Holiday thought about the current state of my wish list: I have a few things on my wish list right now that I would usually buy immediately, but because of the holidays and gift buying for the family, I'm holding them there until I pay off the credit card when the bill comes.

This is a good part of the reason why a large sale, with lots of publishers, would be a good thing.

Phil brings up a good point. This was the reason behind the wording of the pre-christmas sale post I wrote. After writing the initial draft, I hit the rpgnow website to see if any other publishers were establishing any widespread discounts, and lo and behold, there were several. So I made a point of mentioning the fact that ARP wasn't the only company putting a wide range of prices on the chopping block, and I pointed out it was a good time to enjoy sale prices on products from Goodman Games, Ronin Arts and a few other publishers that had a large number of items discounted.

So if you can't find an organized large sale to participate in, take the time to determine if there happens to be a coincidental large sale you can piece to together to participate in.

Dog House Rules doesn't currently have any products that are priced under the RPGNow minimum checkout amount; but we may in the future...who know. But I wonder how many PDF consumers know about RPGNow's Deposit Feature that allows you to deposit money in $10 increments to avoid the minimum checkout price.

Personally, I think this is a great feature at RPGNow that many people don't know about. You can purchase those $1 to $2 PDF's at will and not worry about the minimum checkout amount. I think the guys such as Ronin Arts and Adamant Entertainment that regularly release products under the checkout minimum should really advertise this offering.

Well I personally use RPGnows wishlist to mark in things I would like to buy... if the price is a little lower than normal. By this I do not mean the items that are priced continually on sale. I take the price it is usually at as the regular one, so no tricking me. I have bought pdfs when sent a coupon in the past, and do appreciate being kept informed of sales, even I don't want the products on sale. A couple of companies are doing great at this.
As for sale prices if you're product is above 10 bucks and you get it to 9.99 I will have a very hard time saying no. Those prices are already high enough that a real discount of 3-6 dollars depending on the normal price is necessary to feel like a sale to me. :) For prices 10 and under its usually a difference of a buck or two. If your price is under 2 bucks don't worry, you're just filler materials for when I put together an order. :) Want me to buy those 1 or 2 buck items get the higher priced items on sale.
And remember I have to buy hardcopy books as well for my wife, so I can't spend usually more than 20 at a time on wishlist items.

(btw if you're wondering if I'm referring to you* as a publisher then check my wish list. :) I'm my username at shaw.ca

*denotes whoever is reading the post.

And I'm not just fishing for sales. :D

I didn't know about that feature. I'll give it some thought. Don't know if its right for me, though. I agree that its a feature that some publishers should pimp more. :)
