It was a troll/hobgoblin/ghoul mix, if I remember correctly. Looked like a hobgoblin, regenerated like a troll, paralyzed like a ghoul.

No, I never saw it in AD&D 1e or 2e, either.

Seems like the type of individualized monster that should appear in the Monster Vault: Threats to the Nentir Vale.

Specific, rare, and awesome.

Makes a great BBEG. IMO.

C.I.D.

It did make it to AD&D 2E in the Mystara Monsterous Compendium Annual. I don't remember a 3E version, but it might have been in Dragon Magazine somewhere.

No, not the same. Those are stats for animated objects, which could be anything. The BECMI living statues had some cool unique traits, such as the rock statue being able to fire magma from his finger-tips and having magma blood that could leak on an attacker. Yes, you could add and create the creature using 3E templates with a little work, but that could be said for anything the imagination possesses.

I invented Trolbolds for my game... kobolds with regeneration. I harassed a party for an entire game session with the same band of kobolds because they assumed one hit killed them dead. One of my best 'reveals' ever. They even 'convinced' a pair to join the team...
