There are vehicles to track people's internet presence beyond this site. And most people, in my experience, don't have disparate identities on different sites. They use the same or similar user names, which are often shared with their major social media identities.

Not to mention doxxing into people's real-world identities is also a thing. Most of us who have been on here a while have probably dropped enough clues to make our real-world identities discoverable with some sleuthing.

And more prosaically, knowing that people could be talking about you even if you don't see the communication can still feel uncomfortable.

A good number of people on ENWorld have my personal contact details including my home address although I only use the Belen username here.

Heck, I have an entire contact list of personal names, emails, and phone numbers of members here from the game days and gen con ENWorld events.

It benefits me because it keeps me safer from people who I don't feel are safe to interact with online, which yes, does even occur here. Making myself invisible to them means they're no longer seeing me as a target. If they could still see all of my posts, that's more fuel for them to continue the harassment. Hence, I don't want that to happen. Hence, two-way block.

The disappearing thread aspect is of course frustrating, but a pretty necessary consequence of having two-way block. It's a small price to pay for such a useful safety tool.

We know that isn't the case since there have been times where two way block has been in place, but threads have been accessible so that people can discuss the topic with those who have not blocked them.

I’m curious.

1. Have you ever actually been harassed on here and

2. What exact behavior are you calling harrassement?

My guess is we have much different ideas about what constitutes harassment.

This thread is the exact same handful of people saying the exact same things in the exact same conversation as the last 20 times this subject came up. We’re very well aware off those peoples’ oft-repeated opinions on the topic, but don’t feel they need repeating ad museum in multiple threads. You’ve been very clear, many times. I’m going to close this thread, and sticky it. In future, when this topic comes up, we’ll close it with a link to this thread.
