Three Dragon Ante

Crothian

First Post
We finally got around to playing this last night. We placed it in the game with the player character all invited to an exclusive Tavern that was holding games of it. The players had their option to play as their character or as an NPC. To make sure no one threw the game I offered bonus XP to anyone one that won that game. It was a big hit once people learned it and got used to the game.

There is a lot more strategy to the game then I was expecting. I like how one can see a loosing gambit and just set themselves up for the next one. Or just steal enough gold from the stakes to break even or at least get close to it. While I'm not 100% on the rules it seemed to me there should be a rule that mortals powers always triggers. Since they can't be part of a flight it makes them a bit weak.

Do other people use it in their game or play it? I was impressed. :D

We HAVE the game. We've never played it. If I learn the rules, it might be an interesting game for the characters to learn in a pub or something and then play it at sea on our voyages. That is between navigating weird towers and fighting speaking giant octopi. o_O

We had 4 players. When the game got down to two players each with around 100 gold we would just call it quits and start a new game. Two players with that much gold to loose could take a few more hours and we didn't want that.

This is a fun game! :D Haven't played it enough to get a sense of the best strategy, but I've enjoyed it a lot the few times I've played...

How was it using it in a game? I've only ever played it on it's own.

The game actually ends when the *first* player goes out. Whoever has the most money at that point wins.

I've played it quite a bit; very good game.

Cheers,

We didn't use any of the in character game rules. We played normal to get a good feel for the game first. It worked rather well though. All but one of the people have said today that they really enjoyed it and want to do it again.

Oops. That makes a big difference in the strategy. I knew we probably messed something up. :p
