Three Plot Hooks Per Monster

Great thread!

Medusa - dozens of the most attractive people in the kingdom have been disappearing without a trace. Near the scene of these abductions can be found deep wagon ruts leading off toward a nearby mountain. (An eccentric medusa "collector" has been turning these people to stone and adding them to her "art collection". If confronted by the PC's she will insist that she was just "borrowing" these people and threaten to smash the statues if attacked.)

Edit - 666th post by the way. I didn't think my idea was THAT evil. :D

Fleeing an army of ________, the players are assisted by a group of fierce lizardmen who invite them back to their "village"

The village is actually a happy prosperous town or lizard folk, beset by the ________. The players are told that their aid is desperately needed in this crisis and they are brought to meet the town "mayor." An illithid. Who asks for their help.
I noticed that River's proposal read...wrong. It turns out he put "insert here" in angle brackets -- and those angle brackets (and their contents) get filtered out as HTML by the bulletin-board software. I hope the quoted form makes more sense.

Animals

Animals

All across the countryside, dozens of animals, are spontaneously gaining sentience. It is as though they are being awakened, but no one seems to be enspelling them. Chaos threatens the region as both wild and domestic animals are affected: beasts of burden refuse their chores; cows and chickens beg for their lives; the town cats plot and scheme; and in the hills, an awakened dire mountain lion gathers other sentient predators to its side in a growing army.

What is causing the awakenings? Will civilization be overrun by the wild? And how can the awakenings be stopped or reversed without murdering many innocent new beings?

Vampire - A plague spreading in the lower town brings a new healer to town. Rumors of her great powers are spreading as the disease simply vanishes from those she treats. All are welcome, treatment is free to those that come by after sunset.

Beholder - The spirit of many eyes has risen from beneath the city and Wizards flee the artisan quarters in fear. The price of even the most mundane of magics is doubling daily and thieves guild is once again gaining power. The displaced Wizards are paying well for body guards and a large reward and promise of item creation awaits the party removing the threat.

Wight - The news of a Wraith free in the city had left the mayor pale. The rumors had started last night when a cleric of the dawn had attempted to turn the vile creature. The undead abomination had slaughtered the guards and the cleric in width of a breath. Now risen from their death, wights wandered the city looking for spawn of thier own. The wraith was last seen apporaching the infirmary.

Worg - It was lambing season and as to be expected wolves had been seen approaching the pastuer. This year, larger grey wolves ran apart from the packs. The rangers have called the wolves worgs and now hunt for the goblins that will surely follow.
