Tide of Iron Question

You can shift into the space that the target occupied.

This seems crystal clear. It doesn't state:

You can shift into any of the spaces that the target occupied.

"the space" is singular here. The meaning is clear. The target's original square.

Note: a large creature could open up multiple squares, so obviously any of the original squares could be chosen.

There are now several Ways to increase the push distance of the Tide of Iron Power. Tide of Iron says "You can shift into the space that the target occupied.", does that mean that I can follow him (did he occupy all the squares he was pushed through?) or only move to the enemies original space and therefore am no longer in reach?

Can you name some examples? Because I'm not seeing any in the DDI Compendium. I see 5 feats (martial styles) which affect Tide of Iron by name. Only one discusses range and specifically only with regards to using a reach weapon (Spear and Shield Style, Dragon Annual 2009), to wit:

Tide of Iron: While armed with a spear and a shield, your reach extends by 1 square for using this exploit.

This seems to imply, logically, that you can normally only use Tide of Iron on someone in direct melee, not with a Reach weapon (and thus invalidating the whip idea above, the whip also being a Dragon magazine addition)...which makes sense since the intent of the power, I though, was that you're using THE SHIELD to push them back, not your weapon.

I see some Martial Power 2 feats (again, styles) like Midnight Brawler that give you an extra square to shift in a turn where you use the associated power...but I don't see anything about tying it to Tide of Iron or extending it's range.

Any effect that increases push distance, e.g. Rushing Cleats, Gauntlets of the Ram. These work with Tide of Iron. Or Thunderwave. Etc.

And it's precisely because of Large or larger creatures that I think Tide of Iron needs errata similar to other powers. It needs to say, "Push the target 1 square and shift 2 squares into a square the target occupied."

Spear Push extends the amount pushed by an spear attack by 1.

That's just off the top of my head.

If they wanted Tide of Iron to only be used on adjacent foes, it would have a range of "Melee 1", like many other powers. It doesn't, though. It has a range of "Melee Weapon", which means that it is supposed to be useable with Reach weapons.

Of course, that means having a reach weapon while using a shield.

Not exactly the easiest thing to come by...

Blade of the Eldritch Knight tho!
