Tangents aside, I'd highly suggest using the Lesser Tiefling variant if you can. Its identical to the normal +1 Tiefling, but loses both the Outsider(Native) type and the +1 Level Adjustment. While the Outsider type is useful and powerful, it's not as powerful as another level of spellcasting. Everything else stays the same, so you get the +2 Int/Dex, which is delicious for a Wizard. If you can't, see if you can use Unearthed Arcana's LA buy-off rules, and pay 3000 xp at level 3 to remove the +1 LA. It'll be worth it in the long run as you'll make up the lost XP due to the level difference between you and the rest of the party.
I'd go with a specialist Conjourer. You can't go wrong with Conjouration. It seriously does EVERTHING. Wanna fry a fool? There's a spell for that. Wanna go somewhere far away? There's a spell for that. Wanna blind a bunch of suckers? There's a spell for that. Wanna make a fool act a fool on his back? There's a spell for that. Wanna stun a sucker? There's a spell for that...several in fact. Wanna make the baddy sit in time out for 2-4 turns? There's a spell for that. Wanna reenact your favorite henti scenes at your opponents expense? Yup, you guessed it...there's a spell for that. Plus, the ULTIMATE bestest reason to be a Conjourer...PHBII's Immediate Magic Alt Class Feature. In return for your familiar, you gain the ability to teleport 10' a number of times per day equal to your +Int bonus...as an IMMEDIATE ACTION. Basically, get out of jail free for 90% of things that will threaten your young Wizard in her early life before powerful all-day buffs are available to protect her.
As far as build...since you like Loremaster, consider Divine Oracle (CDiv) as a lead-in. Take Wizard5 for the bonus feat, then take 2 levels of Divine Oracle. It requires Skill Focus: Knowledge(Religion), which is ironically also a prereq for Loremaster. You can either spend a feat on it, or buy it with cash from the Frog God's Fane in Complete Scoundrel for ~3000g, IIIC. Either way, Loremaster gives you the feat back with one of it's secrets, so its not a total loss. 2 levels of DO gives you +1 CL with all divinations, a few extra spells on your class list including the awesome Commune spell (so good they had to put an XP cost on it, worth every cent), and...get this...Evasion. Yup, Precience Sense is basically evasion by another name. Sure, you won't have a GREAT ref save, but it'll be decent, and when you make your save, BONUS.
This leads you into Loremaster. I'd recommend at LEAST 4 levels. This gives you a few moments of awesome. First and foremost, Loremaster has USE MAGIC DEVICE as a class skill. Dump as MANY ranks as you can into it right away. This gives you access to all kinds of clericy goodness, including the elusive but amazing Bead of Karma, the ultimate buff booster. Loremaster also gives you an unrestricted bonus language. Learn Druidic, and thumb your nose at those stuck up tree huggers. Or something really obscure like the ancient dead language of the lost civilization that your party might happen to be researching. Go nuts. The secrets are kinda nice. Definitely get the bonus feat first, if you have the Int for it. The next thing I'd get is the +fort saves. Fort saves will literally kill you to death. The higher your save, the less likely that happens.
Somewhere along the line, I love me a single level dip into Wayfarer Guide. Its only a 3 level PrC, but the 2nd level doesn't advance casting, so it might as well only be a 1 level class. It gives you something really important, depending on the size of your party. Its WONDERFUL getting Teleport at level 9, but keep in mind that Teleport is restricted to +1 extra person per 3 caster levels. If you have a party of 5 (you plus 4 others), someone either has to walk, or you have to make multiple trips. WG gives you the extra capacity to bring along another friend for almost NO prereqs other than some Knowledge: Geography. Woop-dee-doo.
Finally, I highly recommend some Archmage at the pinnacle of your build. I personally really like the Spell Power High Arcana. A higher Caster Level gives all kinds of bonuses. Your buffs last longer, and might be better (GMW, for example). Your nukes nuke harder, depending on level caps. Your spells with SR penetrate deeper. Etc. Lots of good stuff. Master of Shaping is another winner, especially with lots of AoE battlefield control spells. When in doubt, the SLA High Arcana is also always a winner. Think about it...you sacrifice 1 5th level slot plus one Xth level spell slot, and gain 2/day Xth level spells. Example...you're gonna want more than 1 Time Stop per day, right? So you take Time Stop as your SLA. That costs you 1 5th and 1 9th level slot. You use your TS SLA once, just like you would have cast a 9th level spell. The second time you use it, though, its kinda like you were casting it from a 5th level slot. Yea, casting Time Stop from a 5th level slot is AWESOME. Etc.
If you ask nicely, I might recommend some feats, but take some time to digest some of the above suggestions.
