Time Bandits: The Series Official Trailer (2024)

I don't. I think that's the one casting from this trailer that seems to be 100%.

I'm not at all sure what your problem with it is. Can you explain?

Honestly she's probably the only reason I'll even give this a chance. It doesn't feel particularly "off" to me, either - in fact I'm surprised how similar the vibe is to the 1980s movie, which I saw countless times as a kid, but was never a huge fan of.

She has no presence. She plays great quirky side characters, but everything about the delivery here feels off and underwhelming. I would need to see her in the movie itself to give a real assessment, but the trailer is not encouraging at all. Someone like Alex Kingston would be a far better choice here IMO

Edit: Okay, I just rewatched the trailer. Her delivery just feels very flat or something. I don't know. My reaction is the same as the first time. She just feels miscast

Okay. Not seeing it at all but okay.
That is fair, people react to trailers differently.

I mean, factually, objectively, it simply isn't flat, sooo I feel like this might be a PEBKAC issue here, which is fine but y'know.

This I disagree with. She is delivering many of those lines flat. Look I love her as an actress, but judging from these clips it is a flat performance. There just isn't life to it. And I gave thought to your PEBKAC suggestion, because in all honestly I am losing my hearing and that can play a role, so I listened with headphones, still sounded flat to me. I showed it to a few other people and they had similar reactions. I am not saying you have to agree at all. Two people can see the same performance and it can come off completely different to each of them. I am just having a hard time engaging with her performance here. And maybe it is just in the larger context of the film, her performance makes more sense, I don;t know. I just struck me as not very promising from the trailer

Would be a completely different character. I very much doubt those two have ever really been up for the same role.
True, it would be. And I am not saying it has to be her. But someone a bit stronger for a lead (her, Angelica Houston, Julia Louis Dreyfss, Kristen Wig, Christina Applegate-though I think she retired). But I guess that is my point, this character isn't working for me. Now maybe that isn't a problem in the context of the full movie. But going by the trailer, for me it just didn't work

Hm.

I liked the original movie. And I like Taika Waititi, and Lisa Kudrow.

But Apple TV+? Hard nope.

Yeah, I like Taika Waititi, Lisa Kudrow, and Jemaine Clement. I like the B-52s tune. I do not like Apple. I had a horrendous experience with their digital music distribution platform and fear a similar experience with their digital video distribution platform.

It's a comedy, she is supposed to be a hapless leader, that's the joke.

Cue the post of "I saw/own/love the original" post

Well, I’m definitely someone who is a fan of the movie. As for the trailer? It has bits I like, and bits I don’t. I’d have to actually watch the show to know what part of me is right.

But that’s not going to happen because we don’t pay for any TV beyond cable. No premium channels or streaming services except those attached to services we already get, like Prime. (And I don’t bother with that.)

I hope it is good enough to do justice to the original source material, even if it seemingly isn’t a direct prequel/sequel to the movie.

I like Apple TV+ but I find this a very legit concern.

Personally, my experience of Apple TV+ (lol hate writing that out, feels very corporate, but I can't think how to shorten it and not cause confusion) pretty positive, with the sole annoyance being that when I use a new device, I have to go to a site on my mobile to confirm the device (you can also get sent a code).

But I hate iTunes, in part because I was in IT in the '00s and it was the #1 single cause of network and PC problems, as every entitled idiot lawyer tried to install it or begged us to install it for them on their work PCs, and in a larger part because it's absolute TRASHFIRE of an app on everything I've ever used it on (including Apple computers). It seems like with so much money and time having gone into it, it should basically just be solid and boring and work well, but nope!

And so many people have problems with Apple stuff, especially if you're not full Apple ecosystem (but sometimes if you are!). Like a friend was trying to register an Apple ID to get Apple TV+ to work, and it just kept failing inexplicably, and giving him terrible error messages. He spent an hour chatting or on the phone with Apple tech support and they were 100% useless with non-solutions he'd already tried. The internet was also fairly useless. It failed on both PC and phone too. But trawling through fixes, I saw one for a different issue, which was so dumb it just might work - specifically that if you're using a mobile to go to Apple's ID confirmation link and that mobile is on both WiFi and Network, turn off the WiFi and try again. And that was it. Just a completely stupid problem that is completely Apple-specific and was a huge pain to work out.
