Uhhh, it's not meant to be rude.
It's based on how it happens in our games when our Paladins cast their spell and miss their first attack.

O.k. Some of the comments seemed rude to me. Thanks for all the clarification. In summary, the Smite concentration is so that the damage can be applied on your first hit and only your first hit. Any spell effects that come with that damage must be ended with a save.
