Tinman (First thoughts -Many Spoilers)

A few questions here:

- Since Ozma is not the ruler, what happened to her?
- Since the main characters of the Classic 40 are not present, where are they?
- Where is Dorothy, exactly? If not in Oz, why did she leave?
- Is anyone going to resurrect the Wizard of Oz? And, WAS he the Wizard of Oz, or someone else?

I got the impression that this is LONG after the events of Wizard of Oz. Like as much as 400 years after. The original Dorothy is long dead, and they show her tome near the top of the mausoleum as if it is one of the oldest in the building. I assume all the others from the original story are also all dead. I do not know if the "wizard" was the actual wizard, still alive, or just someone akin to that kind of wizard.

Hey there, Black Omega. Long time no see! Greetings, my old friend. :) (remember our 3rd IR?)

Well ok, Dorothy is dead, and a long line of rulers since her (probably including Ozma.)

So what happened to make people in the Land of Oz mortal again? After the Band of Fairies passed over the Land of Oz (and appointed Ozma to rule it - after a long interruption she would do so) it's people became immortal, around 500 years ago or so in Oz time.

Sci-Fi had record-breaking ratings for this...the most-watched program in Sci Fi history...

It certainly didn't hurt that due to the strike there was almost nothing else on... :p

(It was good, yeah, but the best six hours SciFi has ever broadcast? I think not...)

DG had an awfully high bar to leap, as a character, to match Dorothy as Baum portrayed her.

Forget Judy Garland's Dorothy for a second. In the books, Dorothy was around eight (or, by the canon, eleven ... but she acts more like she is eight) and tough, strong, level headed, and matter of fact.
Dorothy is a child that adults defer to in decision making (and even in life and death situations) because Dorothy is brighter, wiser, and more level headed - or more courageous - than they are. Sometimes, even powerful and wise beings like the Wizard of Oz, Glinda, and Ozma defer to Dorothy's judgement, and sometimes she has rescued these people from their enemies.
Dorothy also takes no lip from adults, who would lord it over her simply because she is a child or because they think they know better than she does. She is quick to call people out for what they are, if they behave foolishly, stupidly, or inappropriately, and accepts the consequences stoically.

Read the books. They're good reading. And all of them are available for free (because the copyright in the United States has expired) at Project Gutenburg (you can link to it from Wikipedia ... type in The Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz, or another book name for the Wikipedia entry.)

I never got the feeling the two were connected. Sure the first ruler was Dorothy Gale from a long time ago, but it doesn't mean that was the same on from the movie. They could have just put that in there as part of the 'reimagining'

I saw it as a complete stand alone entity.

Zardoz features Charlotte Rampling, assorted languid, topless Eurotrash women, Sean Connery in an orange diaper, and a giant stone head floating over the English countryside blaring propaganda as in vomits out automatic rifles.

I have to see this movie.

How in the world does that actress get work, she was so wooden and it spoiled the series. She had no reaction to anything. It was awful.

See, I thought she was great! Different tastes.

There were some very good actors in the movie that were just... off. I think it would be safe to lay the blame at the feet of the director. I mean, even Richard Dryfus was less than adequate as the Mystic man, though better than most of the cast.

I enjoyed watching Tin Man, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone and I certainly have no desire to ever see it again.

It's not "that actress," it's either direction or something else. She's normally quite good.
