Tinman (First thoughts -Many Spoilers)

Ok, so it is 2007 ... in Kansas. Back in 1939 (in this version - in the book it was 1900) Dorothy Gale was caught in the tornado as per the film.

How much time has passed since then in Oz (Oz, the Outer Zone, etc.) ?

I thought the first part was really poor, but though the second and third were far from stellar, it did get better, anyway.

It most definitely would have been better in a four-hour format than this six-hour version. There was tons and tons of stuff that didn't add to the story and dragged on and on.

I'm still stunned at how bad Zooey Deschanel's acting was. I really do almost always like her in roles, but here she was just completely wooden. Heck, she didn't even swing her arms when she walked. Woo-ooo-den.

I don't remember precisely, but it was hinted that Dorothy was the first of a line of rulers of the OZ that stretched back dozens and dozens of generations with D.G. being the most recent heir.

I (mostly) enjoyed the series. I liked how they played with the concepts and the type of world they built (it was like a cross between Thundarr, Flash Gordon, and a western).

On the downside...

Couldn't anyone see how stiff she was during filming? She had only one facial expression and delivered her lines like she was working the drive-thru at the local McDonalds. "Oh. My. God. My. Parents. Are. Robots. Would. You. Like. Fries. With. That." :\

And the ending didn't help, either. Couldn't they come up with something better than that?

Even with all its faults, it's still better than their awful Flash Gordon series. They actually put money in this thing!

The ending needed some serious work, but overall I liked it.

Sure, it was only vaguely inspired by The Wizard of Oz, but I found their reimagining of it entertaining enough to stick around for the whole six hours. :)

It entertaining enough, and there's some good acting there. Cain and Glitch are fine.
DG's acting, however, is horrible. She manages to pull me out of the scene half the time with her mailed-in dialog.

Munchkin: "We're going to flay you alive!"
DG: "Ho hum. You're out of your tiny minds..."

Overall we enjoyed it. The first episode was the weakest, but it picked up in the second and third.

Sci-Fi had record-breaking ratings for this, which means a likely series is in the works. It was the top cable miniseries of the year and the most-watched program in Sci Fi history, beating previous champ Steven Spielberg's Taken. It lured 5.3 million viewers with a 50/50 male/female audience, making Sci Fi the top entertainment cable channel for the three-night run. The miniseries averaged more than 2.9 million viewers in the 25-54 demo and 2.7 million in the 18-49 demo.

"So, after becoming Sci Fi's top-rated telecast ever, could the Tin Man miniseries go to a full series? "Yes, for sure it can be a series," says cocreator Mitchell. "Write all those letters to Sci Fi. We've looked at a series a couple ways. We could pick it up where the story ended, or it could be a prequel to this. Basically, the O.Z. when it was falling apart, and when the Tin Man was a cop, and the downfall of the O.Z. before Dorothy got there. We have several ideas.""

I agree with the poor acting on the part of Zooey Deschanel. I have seen her in a couple of different things including Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Elf. I was surprised at how bad she was in this. There were a few moments when she did fine but most of the time, bleh.
I also thought it was funny how she ran. It didn't look natural at all.

[sblock]Well with DG having redemed Azkedella, and Azkelella being the rightfull heir (as well as Kathleen Robertson being the far better actress) the series could focus on Azkedella trying to right the wrongs she commited while posessed. [/sblock]

I think a series should occur after the events of Tin Man, not before.

A few questions here:

- Just when did people resume aging and dying of natural causes in Oz?
- Since Ozma is not the ruler, what happened to her?
- Since the main characters of the Classic 40 are not present, where are they?
- When was the Emerald City renamed Central City, and why?
- When did the Rift open?
- Where is Dorothy, exactly? If not in Oz, why did she leave?
- If ONE wicked witch could be loosed by a tragic accident, there are almost certainly others ... and this means a continuing threat to the Realm. Since DG's mother could not handle the situation, perhaps DG and her sister can?
- The external threats to Oz remain. The Nome King and others are still out there. And who is to say yet more outsiders from the Other Side won't be accidentally drawn into the realm?
- Is anyone going to resurrect the Wizard of Oz? And, WAS he the Wizard of Oz, or someone else?
