Tiny Adventures

I'm considering running a game in which the PCs will be tiny (and diminutive) sized - adventures under the floorboards sort of thing:).
So we have Dogs as large monsters as , brooms as devices of sweeping destruction weilded by giant humans - hey even halflings get looked UP to!

So anyone got ideas on how to 'visualise' the world from the perspective of 15 inches high?
What kind of adventures would suit the 'setting'?
What factors would need to be considered?

There's a great old Dungeon Magazine adventure, "Chadranthor's Bane" (I believe that's the spelling) that deals with some of these issues. It is in the 20s or lower IIRC.

Play on your kitchen floor. Use the chairs and such for props.

As per an adventure, how about a rat has taken some thing valuable and someone has hired you to get it back from it's nest.

One concern will be that magic will be super powerful. THe REALLY low strength your PCs will have will limit combat effectiveness but magic missile and others spells will be at full damage.

Good luck!

This might be obvious but try watching the Borrowers and reading the book of the same name. A lot of people have heard of the movie, but few that I know have actually found out that there was a book. The book is always better than the Movie, IMO. Better descriptions, anyways.

chadranther's bane

I thik that was issue #17, great module btw. one concern though is the size discriptions (at 1" = 6') of your hight rats would be much larger then the module allows for, likewize the weazel and snake would be colussal so the HD would be in the 48 range.

I have run this module several times and its one I consider a classic.

Did a search on Bunnies & Burrows and found this site

amongst other things it says

A mouse-sized creature survives a fall from any height, since the air resistance slows the descent speed to perhaps 15 ft/sec. A landing will be soft enough to avoid injuries.

This seems a tad too powerful IMHO so how would you incorporate this into the D20 system? Perhaps increase the fall height increments to 20 ft rather than 10?

it also says the heat loss will be greater at tiny size but I can ignore that rule:)

And what is the effect of wind on tiny folk?

A tiny adventure! How come I never thought of this?! This is pure genious!

*Begins taking out a new notebook to plan a new campaign!* :D

Speaking of magic, that 20-foot spread Fireball is going to be uber powerful. So will strength-draining poison.

One thing you might consider is "resetting" Tiny as Medium size, and scaling up from there. That way, your Tiny spellcasters will have proportionate spell effects, ranges, etc. and poison and other ability score damage will be reset.

I mean, if everything has 6 Strength, physical combat just won't work.
