tips on fog user

Hi, this is my first post here on these forums. I've been lookin around at threads here for years when I was trying to come up with some funky ideas or improve my builds but now I have a question which I can't really find a precedent for.

In a couple of weeks I'm starting a new character in a new campaign DMed by a buddy of mine and I've always wanted to play a character who mainly uses all of the mist/fog spells. There's one for most levels. I kinda like the idea but I'm not really sure how to go about it.

Easiest would be going for sorc and just taking them as my first spell that I know each level but I'm scared that the character is going to be no help to the party whatsoever in combat. Some of the fog spells are pretty good if used properly but quite a few overlap and if I'm not carefull I'll hurt my buddies as much as my foes.

I've done a quick search for all the fog spells:
obscuring mist ph 1
cloud of bewilderment spc 2
fog cloud ph 2
(inky cloud) spc 2
contagious fog spc 3
stinking cloud ph 3
Murderous mist spc 4
solid fog ph 4
mind fog ph 5
cloudkill ph 5
Acid fog ph 6
freezing fog spc 6
incendiary cloud ph 8

I was maybe thinking going for cleric who's god would be a misty secrety guy and asking my DM oh so nice to create a Mist Domain.

But even if I can get that done I still need to use them properly.

Does anybody have any good tips on making this character work?

interesting, but the blocked line of sight and concealment caused by the clouds may make battles run longer. Significantly longer.

Necklace of Adaptation

This necklace is a heavy chain with a platinum medallion. The magic of the necklace wraps the wearer in a shell of fresh air, making him immune to all harmful vapors and gases (such as cloudkill and stinking cloud effects, as well as inhaled poisons) and allowing him to breathe, even underwater or in a vacuum.

Moderate transmutation; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, alter self; Price 9,000 gp.

Effectiveness of that kind of build depends largely on situation I guess. He will not so helpful in usual dungeon crawling. But he may be quite useful when a small party of adventurers fighting against a horde of monsters in open field (say, a war themed campaign like Red Hand of Doom).

If a party's main warriors are taking Pierce Magical Concealment feat (Complete Arcane) and have necklaces of adaptation, they may fight one-side game within your clouds.

Hand out necklaces of adaptation to all your friends?

That is actually a nice idea however it's not gonna be in my price range for quite a while.

I'll consult the other players and DM about my build first offcourse. I just want to see if it can be a somewhat viable build first.

Actually it might be a good point to talk to at least one or two of my party members if I make this character so maybe we can make our builds as combo's. Working together we might actually make this a decent build.
Pierce Magical Concealment is a good tip for that.

And if there's a rogue in your party, he's going to hate you.

Uh yeah. Pretty much :D

To aid myself at least in the mist I was thinking of buying a Blindfold of True Darkness or maybe create a spell or two myself. Something like:

eyes in the mist
sorcerer/wizard 3
Divination
range: personal
duration: 1 minute/level

While in an area of mist or fog (magical or otherwise) you gain blindsense with a radius equall to the mist's radius and blindsight with a radius of 5 feet +5 feet/level (maximum the mist's radius).

And maybe a spell that gives the benefit of an amulet of adaptation with a range of touch and a duration of say 1minute/level.
