Hrmmm. It should be automatic. Anyone else having trouble with this? It's cookie related, so it might be worth deleting your EN World cookie and seeing if that does the trick.

Seems to be working fine tonight. It must have been a one-time glitch. Maybe I accidentally discovered some keyboard shortcut which deletes my cookies or something.

By the way, I agree with everyone else that it's a great idea. I often open a bunch of threads in new windows all at once and read them one-by-one before going going back to the forum or changing forums. If I don't see a thread I'd like to comment in, I'll often see that my unread threads have been reset. So, BRAVO! Great job.
