Not in the traditional sense. The games way back when I started could be most accurately abbreviated as PAD&D (Photocopied Advanced Dungeons & Dragons), and they were a mishmash of multiple translations/summaries/rule compilations, some based on 1e, some on 2e, and some on either of these with house rules, new classes and stuff thrown in. I still fondly remember The Ruby Codex and gauntlets of Arnold Schwarzenogre. Playing half-orc assassins was all the rage, and some people were running around with +8 vorpal maces. Ahhh.
I've been playing since 1977, and am a particpant in a group that is a meld of 1Ed/2Ed that has been running since about 1985, but only intermittently (perhaps 3 adventures a year) since the advent of 3.X.
Started playing Advanced at age 7, played until 2nd ed came out and then tried 2nd ed with my buddies. None of us cared much for it and continued playing Advanced and several other FRPG's by other companies until 3rd ed came out. Currently we switch between Advanced and 3rd ed and various minture games thrown in to keep things interesting.
