To all the Boy Scouts: What can you do with rope?

I used the rope to tie up the Scout Master after he told me that my knots suck for the uptenth time. He was quiet after thirty minutes of struggling before telling me that I would get my badge for roping after all.

There is all sorts of stuff that you can build using logs and rope. The technique is called "lashing" and it allows you to build simple structures. Need a 40ft watchtower? Get three 50ft logs apply the correct lashings and you will have a nice tripod to stand on as you survey the area.

Our favorite rope trick...

Have a high dex character lasso a flying opponent and then hand it off to a high strength character to step on it at the right length. Our Elven Warrior/Wizard and Half-Ogre Warrior team made this an art form.

Things to do with rope

Lashing
Lean-to's for that coveted +2 equipment bonus to survival (no joke...I've seen low level parties TPK'd by a blizzard)
Improvised spears
Bridges
Rafts
Towers
Catapults
Travois
Ladders/scaffolds

Rope stuff
Lowering things
Raising things
Hauling things (party corpses, treasure)
Opening pull doors from 50 feet away: good for those really nasty AoE traps.
Fishing for very large monsters: gnomish bagpiper bards optional. (for Bait)

yep, that's in the scout oath. But please don't let this turn into a paladin alignment thread of what that oath allows :)

Hmm...that's not the oath I remember. Maybe Canadian scouts had a different oath. I seem to remember we mention the Queen in there somewhere.

Hey, don't make fun of us Boy Scouts!

One thing to remember about a rope - it is made of of smaller strands bound together. Depending upon how it was made you could potentially unravel a one-hundred foot rope into the individual strands you could potentially get a ball of string up to a mile long. That's a great tool to use to mark your trail inside of any dungeon.

Unless you happen to run into a smart troll.
