To Dm's: What is your favorite monster/bad guy to throw at the oarty?

Medusae. I really like using a medusa to harrass the group. They are good in a straight up fight, but even better if used with a lot of traps and tricks. They get cool lairs and are extra spooky because the party knows they're being stalked by a medusa. Even turning only one person to stone is quite a treat.

Lordnightshade if you want rend take a Girallon :D

After two of these droped out the canopy and tore two characters to pulp in one round, each time I tell them they see an ape like creature they all feverishly ask how meny arms it has. :D

And if the anser is more than one pair.... they run.

This is odd, but I don't even know the right name for the omnster I like to throw at the party the most.
Nor does the monster evn attack the party most times I throw it at them - it/they are almost scenery, but they always seem to freak the players out.

See I have a number (maybe a dozen) of these tiny little miniatures that look like spiders with stubby humanoid torsos and oversized mouths filed with pointy teeth. They each have two stubby arms, and a few hold daggers - others just have claws.

Driders, aren't they? Or something very similar to driders.

For my part, I enjoy dragons. Who doesn't? Furthermore, my campaign is set in medieval Europe, so I get dragons proclaiming just how pathetic humans are. "I was there when Rome fell. I was ancient when the Pyramids were raised." So far, the PCs have had the right idea and never, ever crossed a dragon. It helps when I say, "See the room we're gaming in? Its head fills this room."

But for pure fun, I sometimes take the PCs side and throw them up against a horde of nearly mindless creatures like goblins or zombies. Whirlwind attack, Cleave and a high BAB means the fighter vanishes at the heart of a cloud of body parts. Did I mention he carries a scythe?

I'm also having fun with orcs, but the PCs haven't fought any yet... they're just the indigenous people of certain areas in Eastern Europe for me. Ever seen a Cossack dance? The one where you keep your body as close to the ground as possible while jumping up and down and kicking while your arms are folded? Well, the PCs found an orc doing that in the streets of Pesht (it's half of Budapest) and were so charmed they gave him a silver piece.

I love using Forest Goblins.. you know.. little guys that I based their tactics and dress style from that movie.. um.. Last of the Mohicans.. yeah.. they are just nasty.. little bows.. little tomahawks.. I love it. My players.. well.. they gain new repect for goblins. Not much.. but just enough that they don't underestimate the blighters.

And Ninja Kobolds.. can never have enough Ninja Kobolds. flik flaking all around the party.

Death Knight, no ifs ands or buts, Death Knights make a triumphant return in the MM II to the cheers of dm's and the cries from players everywhere.

Well let's see.

Slitheren definately, but probably Hags and High Gorgons.

Otherwise it's more than likely Death Knights.
