To Final Fantasy Fans and Fans of Dreams/Nightmares (On topic trust me)

First Post
ok my game is Final Fantasy based. The characters in my game are all having some troubled sleep.

Jarreth (NPC) tried to kill himself with poison b/c he found out his family was dessicated by a strange plague.

Ariea (Psi Warrior) feels she failed as Jarreths Guardian. Also looking for her lost father.

Illiyanna (Rogue) doesnt know her real parents and is upset that Jarreth tried to kill himself.

Ste' (NPC) is Jarreths new Guardian and fell asleep while protecting him.

Uu'rufie (Dragoon Knight) has been in a coma. She is in Veruna looking for someone who can help her and her tribe. She lost her child and her tribe to a strange disease as well. She was told to head back North and bring a corpse back for examination.

Im wanting something nightmarey and haunted from ghosts of the past, or even shadows of their failures. They are about 2nd/3rd level.

I watch your threads, I just don't have that much to say. Your work is good, for your tastes. I'd like working with you, but as I'm more of a mechanics and free-form guy, you would have control over flavor and story elements. That being said,

check out Final Fantasy Tactics. I don't know what your friend said to you about the game, but please at least take these points in mind.

Unless your primary reason for liking the FF games is their combat system or their new-age CG films, FFT has every final fantasy quality. Strong story (albeit with a few typos, like calling Lich Rich). The battles are more 'tactical' but as I said, I don't play FF games for the combat systems, although tactics is the first completely customizable FF as far as character progression goes (omitting FF5 because there were only 5 major characters, and omitting FF10 because it came later). It's a good game, trust me. Also, look up Final Fantasy D20 and you can find the white/black/time mage spell list from someone else. Excellent work if I might say so.

Doesn't Final Fantasy deal with spirits a lot? Have some great, imposing spirit visit them in a shared dream that exposes their secrets or fears to each other, and have the spirit reveal some important clues about the mysterious plague.

Does that help?

Shake them up...

So you want to shake them up, and the central event of the campign for now is Jarreths suicide. (Does he look like David Bowie?)

Perhaps Jarreth succeded in his suicide and over the next few sessions the party starts to get hints that this isn't quite Jarreth anymore. If you want to screw them up more have it turn out that this isn't necessarily a bad thing. It might even turn out to be necessary, if you want to do a 'save the world' plot. Or it could be more local.

EX: The disease that killed his family is a sentient curse/disease wich over the centuries has learned remourse and wants to stop killing. But it's a disease and must continue to infect people to survive itself. Until it learned that Jarreths family somehow had the ability to contain it without spreading the disease to others. The rest of the family tried to help (willingly or no) and died. Jarreth was the first to understand, their bodies can contain the disease, but not while also carrying a soul.

Of course if the party figures this out and kills Jarreth they loose the disease on the world again.

Just an idea there's lot's of other ways you could pull a fake with Jarreths suicide attempt.

no, Jarreth looks like me actually. hes my NPC. im not sure if i wanna kill him like that though and im still clueless as to the plague. It was done with until another PC came in and said she was from the North (winterlands basically) and said a strange plague was killing her people.
