To play, or not to play.....that is the question.

Hi, welcome.

Follow the community rules and you should be fine.

I play a number of systems and don’t have just one. I do have favorites by genre and type of experience. An old system may be replaced by a new one if it works better for me.

Examples.
Fantasy was D&D and is now PF1
Sci-Fi was Classic Traveller and is now Traveller Mongoose 2E.
Can you direct me to the community rules? I do not seem to be able to find them.

I do not think I ever read the site rules before. Don't be a jerk seems to be the overarching theme.

I would add that sometimes it is ok to disengage with the others. I have found that some have a need to get in the final word or be right, according to them at least. If someone comes back to what I say and tells me that I need to go through the total of the internet from the last 20 years to quote what I mention for sources, I just do not respond. There are plenty of threads that are interesting and it is not worth being the troll.

We should have been more accurate with the name!

So I now have to ask. While I understand no one wants to see a bunch of spam, I have a TTRPG that I have created. It has taken me over 26 years to create. While yes I am excited about the idea that someday I may actually make a bunch of money, I am actually here to talk about my game.

I want to share some aspects about my game and get feed back and have genuine conversation, hopefully generate interest in my game, its rules and guage peoples reactions. I also would like to explain what makes it stand out from other gaming systems and what is awesome about it.

If this forum allows I would like to do a bit of a question period about specific professions or races or even talk about castle building, resources or even becoming a god!!! It is my aim to make a community based world. All cities in my world were founded by players, and I would like to grow the world in the same way.

We don't have a dedicated forum for game creation but I don't see how any of that would be forbidden here as long as it's in the TTRPG General forum (I think the Publishing forum is more for the business aspects). I don't know how much feedback you'll get and how useful it will be, though. We have some people here with experience in many different games, but that doesn't always lead to useful feedback.

Edit: It's probably a smart move to hang around here for a few weeks to take in the vibe first, before hopping right into talking about your own game though.

Just my two cents: if you can phrase questions or posts in terms of existing game systems, that’s helpful, even if ultimately you want to apply answers to your own game system. What isn’t generally helpful, at least to me, are threads about a game system that I can’t really see. There have been a lot of people over time who’ve posted about their own games that they’re building, soliciting advice from others. I can’t say they get a lot of traction but part of that also has to do with the way one engages others; I don’t think anyone wants to read someone’s extremely rough draft of a bunch of rules and basically “do homework.”

Do some searches around the forums to see what’s worked for people and what hasn’t.

Thank you for the tip =). I happily can say my game is indeed a finished product with the proofing being delivered as we speak. I already have a hardcover version!!!! That said I will try. Naturally I would eagerly answer any misunderstanding regarding my game.

Welcome, welcome!

Others have covered looking at the community rules, and not arguing a Red moderation comment in public. (Also, don't post in red as it looks like a moderator message.)

We like a variety of RPGs here, though D&D (and Level Up) definitely have more of a focus. ENWorld grew out of Eric Noah's Unofficial 3rd Edition News while hints about the new edition when it was moving from the stagnant TSR to WotC, and that focus has widened but has never gone away. I mention that because while both a good number have split from D&D, and many more have issues with WotC's stewardship of it, constantly calling it "Big Dragon" will likely bias how some people react to you.

Personally I'm not playing nor running any D&D right now. Various PbtA games esp. Masks: A New Generation, 13th Age 2nd ed, Blades in the Dark, Fate (SF somewehre The Expanse/Mass Effect inspired), one game of PF 2nd Remastered among a group that likes high fantasy. I'm not against D&D and will likely play it again, I just like rules that support the feel I want to run or play, and right now various bespoke or highly custimizable systems fit that the best.
