To those who surf the Dragonsfoot forums...

First Post
I hadn't visited that site too much in the past month or too and I noticed recently that they're 3e forum and notorious "Edition Wars" forum have been closed.

I searched the site for an announcement of it and I only found a "This is a AD&D site and is not a place for discussion of 3e" or something like that. I was looking for something more detialed.

Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on it. I'm asking here becasue I know a few people here surf there and it seems that they don't want to discuss this point at DF.

It got closed because there are a vocal group of people at Dragonsfoot who hate 3E and everything WotC.

They instigated a bunch of flamewars on Edition Wars and blamed it on the 3E supporters.

One of them left the Dragonsfoot boards altogether, but the damage was done, and EW was closed down shortly thereafter - even though some interesting discussions had begun again.

I have very little sympathy for Dragonsfoot. I have the highest post count at that site, but I don't bother visiting there except on rare occasions. It's not worth the aggravation. Where before I'd direct people over there if they wanted to learn more about 1E, I will do so no longer.

If you don't hate 3E, you don't belong there.

Cheers!

It seems a little more that way now, I must say.

Funny, It used to have a lot of crossover posters from EN World (Henry and Piratecat, both have high postcounts for example). There's still some.

I'll miss the 3e forum because it was a good place to get advice on running 3e from an 'old timers' point of view. Good for advice on running old mods in conversion or jsut advice, and the forum gave a different perspective on 3e. The EW forum also helped give you some perspective on the the edition. It's good to see 3e criticized, even it it's my edition of choice.

I guess the DF people have the right to brand their site they way they want too, but I'll be visiting it less now I guess.

BTW, is there another place to go?

On another note, I have liked the OD&D forum at DF. It seemed to have a different atmosphere there. I may continue to visit just that. Actually, I've been wanting to start an OD&D/Basic/Expert/etc. thread there on the model of your OAD&D thread.

Yup.

The staff has decided to cater to the "Simpsons comic-book guys" style extremist luddites of their constituency.

ditto. :\

a new trend of bashing over there is over the C&C stuff, even tho... Troll lords has their own forum.

also the more extreme ADnDers formed a spinoff site of their own. it is good for 1edADnD stuff, but don't go there for anything else. :(

i've gone back to the WotC OoP board for most of my fun. :D

I noticed that, I checked it out for the first time the other day, and all it was was "I hate skills!", "I hate WotC!", "I hate everything, because I'm unique, just like everyone else on this forum!" :)

Using Simpsons referrences, I kept hearing Grandpa Simpson's voice as I read thos posts.

I love OAD&D, 1E, and...dare I say it...2E!!

I love gaming, but those types (and the 3E supremist anti-1E supremists) drive me bonkers, am I the only one who just wants to roll dice and prentend to be some one I'm not for a few hours here and there??

If only more OD&Der's were like diaglo, wouldn't the gaming world be a shiny, happy place? A place were all dice rolled in peace, and harmony... :D

Not with such experts on the finer matters and such focus on the game; but I think I'll agree with Diaglo and point them at the OoP boards on the Wizards site. After hearing so many bad things about the Wizards boards from people at Dragonsfoot (along with really bad things about ENworld), the Wizards boards seems pretty good to me.

It does have a different atmosphere. The Basic game was never predominant, so the people there have always been wanting people to join them, rather than resenting the status they've lost, and having huge inferiority complexes as a result.

There are plenty of really nice AD&D players at Dragonsfoot - but the idiots that post there have taken over and made it a site to avoid.

Cheers!
