When you game in a published setting with published product support, to what degree do you alter that setting to suit your personal tastes or those of your group?

The more I like a setting, the closer I will want to stay with canon, but even IK and Harn (which I love) I tweak on a regular basis to suit my style.

I make a few cosmetic changes, mainly to areas like history, just to make the setting my own. I'll add a few plot points for future campaigns but I won't make major changes.

Hi,

I buy more setting supplements than I could ever use to run separate campaigns in, so I tend to add one into another. Some examples:

- Nyambe became the jungles of Hepmonaland (Greyhawk)
- Freeport is situated in the Azure Sea (Greyhawk)
- Ptolus became Zazesspur (Tethyr, Forgotten Realms)
- Rokugan is situated to the west of the Flanaess (Greyhawk)
- Undermountain became the Undercity of Unthalass, Unther (FR)

Cheers

Richard

I have to make changes. No matter how much I love the setting I always end up making some changes to what is printed. Maybe it is my own arrogance or desire to put my own personal stamp on it. *hangs head in shame* Why can't I leave well enough alone? ;)

I am quite willing to harvest good ideas from settings, but end up building my own.

It just feels better to have a tailor-made setting, rather than a ready-to-game. ;)

I take canon material and insert outside resources to either improve the area or personalize it.

Currently I am mainly running Eberron. What I have either done or plan on doing is-

Undermountain located under Yarkuun Draal (south of Sharn) which was already mentioned as having a vast netwaork of catacombs built by the goblinoids thousands of years ago.

Assathi have a small and very secret monastary in Q'barra

Red Hand adventure series will take place along Breland's border
