TOB: Stance progression: problems for crusader

Eh. Not being able to get your own highest-level stance is stupid.

Why is it "your" stance? Another way to look at it would be that they were not intended to have high level stances, but the option is provided for those who want a more stance-oriented crusader.

Because it's my class.

Having to multiclass to take advantage of your own class feature is stupid.

I suspect all the rules weren't hammered out precisely.

Note that there are a couple of 6th level Stances, but mostly Stances fit in the 1 - 3 - 5 - 8 progression. Who's to say if in earlier versions there weren't 2nd level Stances? (Hunter's Stance seems to have originally been higher than 1st level -- WTF is up with the prereq?)

I think we're seeing vestiges of earlier drafts, and that allowing folks to delay would be balanced.

Cheers, -- N

I fail to see how a stance, which you don't have to take, for styles that not all crusaders have, is a "class feature." It seems evident to me that automatically learning high level stances is not a class feature of crusaders, whether in a style specific to them or not.

No other base class besides crusaders has access to Devoted Spirit. Therefore it's my stance. Having to use a feat or multiclass just to pick up immortal fortitude is as stupid as a wizard using a feat or multiclassing to pick up 9th level spells.

No one ever answered my PrC question, either. Is it not the case that a master of the nine can easily take that stance?

I'd have to check my book to see how master of nine would affect it, but off hand I'd say that's a very rare prestige choice for the crusader. You need to know a manuever from five or six disciplines, and the crusader only has access to three, requiring you to take Martial Study two or three times as a feat.
