Tome of Battle - Are they serious?

Light,

Yeah but notice the tread to less prestige classes and more base classes. I think we might be seeing the end of that from WotC about any more Pr-classes.

Od,

True dat.

I love the fact that there are now enough base classes that I can create a D&D campaign that will actually work without traditional spellcasters. Yay! :)

I think of all the new 'base classes' that have been introduced, the ONLY one that I've got any use for at all is the Warlock.

The Book of Nine Swords sounds interesting (apart from potential base class cheesiness), but if I use it, it will be in order that I can make interesting combat forms available to ALL classes.

Clearly I'll have to read it when it comes out and judge whether it is worth the effort to integrate it with the PHB classes.

I'll watch with interest as the first reviews and sightings start to appear.

KidCthulhu gave an impassioned argument the other evening about how the additional "core" classes really offend her sensibilities. Although I like some of them quite a bit (ardent, lurk, beguiler, warlock) I can understand how she feels and I'm hesitant to emnbrace them. It'll be interesting to see what the Tome of Battle introduces.

Conversely, in my games we've embraced the new "core" classes.

Soulblade, Incarnate, Totemist, Samurai, Swashbuckler, Warmage, Favoured Soul, Hexblade, Ninja, Scout, Psion, Psychic Warrior, and Soulblade - all of these new classes have been used in my games and have greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the players as they've experimented with new ways of approaching the game.

Cheers!

Merric, you're sort of the quintessential early adopter - you try stuff quickly, so the rest of us know what to expect! And believe me, it's appreciated.

And we use all the classes in the XPH; I was actually thinking of those as core. Just goes to show.)

The base classes in the first four complete books feel core to me now. I'm really looking forward to seeing stuff from Incarnum and Tome of Magic in particular!

I'd liek to reccomend Knight and Dragon Shaman to the list of "expanded core classes".

The shaman is very bardlike, capable of healing (but not much) capable of defending (but noit well) capable of fighting (as a midrower) he's perfect in either parties that need versitility, or parties that

The Knight is possibly the penultimate tank. High hit points, high armor class, class-specific skills that FURTHER raise that armor class and increase the effectiveness of those hit points, and an ability to make certain enemies target them! All good stuff!

How about those other "Base" classes from the Tome of Magic? Have you made any changes to any classes whatsoever?

No chance of getting KC to make her argument here? I'd be interested in hearing it...
