Top 10 Gamer Gripes

I agree there, but with WOTC and DND, WOTC got alot of old DnD designers and game designers. 3rd edition should have lastest about 10 years, about the same time first and second edtion did.
I have it from a very relible source the 3.5 was pushed out buy the business people at Hasbro so to get more money. WOTC could have put out more adventures/ sourcebooks, ect.. But WOTC had pressure put on them to make a relitivly young RPG system, DnD 3rd edition. 3.$ is too different from 3rd ed.
WOTC had the time to get it right the first time.

KenM, thank you for illustrating the point of my first post in this thread. :D

By the way, would you mind telling us about this reliable source of yours? Everybody can claim to know somebody "in the industry" who is privy to confidential information, but most people who make such claims can't deliver when pressed for more info.

You know.. you could look at 3.5 on the flip side. WOTC made 3.0 and then quickly after made 3.5 - but a lot of 3.5 changes were made based on people's complaints of 3.0 (not all of course, let's not start that debate).

So you can say that TSR in fact didn't listen to people's complaints about 2e for 10 years!!

Consider the fact that WOTC spent all the time and money on a 3.5 system that they gave virtually for free on srd. Also, consider that there was a good chance they would not have made a lot of money off of it (or could have made more money with a different product). And of course the embarrasment at admitting there were definate flaws in 3.0.

So while of course 3.5 was out there for the money, at least it was a good product to push I'd say.

This isn't just about D&D or 3.5. These complaints are the same whether it's about White Wolf or Wizards.

And yeah, this is basically just counter-whining. You're free to whine, just as I'm free to whine about how much you whine.

Overall, I see the list of counter gripes as accurate and just. Many of them can apply (directly or indirectly) to fanboys of genre movies and TV shows (especially ones made from comics)

I'd say so. Replacing Hitler with Stalin/Pol Pot/Bin Laden/Nixon/whoever doesn't take much originality. It’s the same basic poetic fallacy.

But this post does annoy me. D&D books may cost 30 dollars a piece for a reason, but it still doesn't mean I can't complain about it if I want to.

I do believe that there is a certain amount of ranting that can be done about the books. Can anyone explain to me why the Core Books cost around $30 and books like Sword & Fist which are significantly smaller, softcover, and contain black & white artwork cost $20? Personally I wouldn't mind if the Core Books were softcover and contained black & white art if they'd sell each for $10 or $15 cheaper. Other game publishers such as Sword & Sorcery can put out all sorts of hardcover, high quality books for Scarred Lands for almost half the cost of WOTC's books. When I bought the FR Campaign setting it was retailing for $40 but the Scarred Lands Ghelspad setting only cost $25. Part of the reason I got into Scarred Lands in the first place was just to stick it to WOTC over the cost.

i had many of the gripes about every rpg i've purchased.

from OD&D on up.

esp #9. i've always complained about the prices.
