Smoking has been banned by law in enclosed public spaces for some time in the UK, and I go out for a pint much more often now because of it!I don't smoke. I don't drink. Bars have both, so as such, I avoid them. When I do end up in one, I only talk to the people I came with, not people who happen to be there.
As much as the internet has replaced the FLGS in my spending habits, it's also become the de-facto place where I organise my role-playing. My weekly 4E group was constructed almost entirely from ads and responses on ukroleplayers.com.Since England's game stores are tiny and mostly just hold product, and pubs tend to be filled with local regulars, I guess thats where folks go and socialize. How does the topic of gaming and "would you like to play a game" come up?
Now, the pub did in fact feature in all cases... not so much as a recruiting ground but as a vetting location.
