Top 15 Languages of all time

Of course, with all these suggestions people are throwing around (including the usual outsider standby's), the big question becomes... WHO is going to teach your character those bizarre languages?

When they start on the planes, especially one of the larger planar metropoli or trade cities like Sigil, City of Glass, the Gatetowns, Grenpoli, Center, Death-of-Innocence, Sum-of-All, etc you're exposed to such a massive number of languages that you stand a decent chance of learning them from a native speaker you know personally, a sage for hire, or through the resources of a church/sect/faction/planar organization, etc.

Of course at that point I'd arguably put you at a disadvantage in learning obscure prime material languages whose cultures don't have much, or any, impact on the planes.

I'm absolutely with you on that, Shemeska! Its all about the setting and the situation.
This thread is wonderful for "what if's" and "wouldn't it be cool" just-for-fun musings, but if Lord Bob is looking for serious suggestions, he needs to let the thread-participants know what campaign setting his DM is using, and where his barbarian comes from.

If his barb hails from the Realm's frozen north or Greyhawk's Thillonrian Peninsula, he's not going to be speaking yugoloth or gith. If he hails from Ribcage, you can forget about speaking Vodoni (Spelljammer) or Aarokocra.
