Top 5 RPGs you want to play (player or GM) in 2026?

1. His Majesty the Worm
2. Dolmenwood

Why not combine these ;). Some good hacks on the HMTW discord!

Honorable Mention: Stonetop. It's basically always in my list of what RPGs that I want to play.

Wrapping up my long campaign of this soon, I think we'll try something of the below and then circle back to a "a generation later" redux to push in new directions.

My list:

1. Wanderhome.
2. Errant.
3. Bump in the Dark (Monster of the Week but fix the lesser parts and make it Forged in the Dark)
4. The One Ring 2e
5. Trophy Gold

My list isn't particularly new except for #1. #1 I'm going to be running, the others are ones I want to get a chance to play. I'm far from being a forever GM, but I am the one most likely to run different systems, so I don't get a chance to play them.
  1. 13th Age 2nd Edition (had the PDFs, just got my slipcase with the books)
  2. Masks: A New Generation
  3. Anything done with Cortex Prime
  4. Monster Hearts or other PbtA with threads/relationship mechanics
  5. Fate Core that actually lasts.
Honorable mention: More PbtA, like Monster of the Week or Urban Shadows, but I'm not picky.

Side note, glad to see Vaesen getting so much love. Another I've run but never gotten to play.

There are, I'm on that Discord. I happen to really like the Dolmenwood rules, and I want to at least start with HMTW doing a more usual thing with it, which may end up being The Castle Automatic since I don't think I'm capable of not pre-ordering it.

In 2026 I want to solo play modern or sci-fi games. 2025 was very fantasy oriented. I have several unplayed games on the shelves. My list:
  • Coriolis the Great Dark
  • Dream Machines
  • Starforged
  • Numenera 2e
  • Outgunned Pulp Adventure.
EDIT: emphasis added by me
  • Ironsworn: starforged
  • Monster of the week
  • Mongoose traveller
  • Nemenera
  • Young Centurions (Fate accelerated)
EDIT: emphasis added by me

Hello Starforged curious friends. I just wanted to share my experience. Sorry for the unsolicited advice—I am just really excited to see other people interested in the game.

I found that using Obsidian with the Iron Vault community plug-in made my game so much more enjoyable. I tried a few other tools out there—I even tried pencil and paper—but nothing beats Obsidian + Iron Vault combo for me.

I also highly recommend the Ironsworn discord. While the rules are well-written, I found multiple instances where I had to get help from the community to read between the lines to really make sense of it. The community is active, friendly, and responsive.

Games I haven't played that I want to play in 2026:
  1. Wanderhome (kind of cheating since I actually have a game scheduled for late December)
  2. Brindlewood Bay
  3. Monster of the Week (I bought this in 2024, but haven't been able to organize a game)
  4. Vaesen
  5. Cosmere
Games I am currently playing that I want to continue playing in 2026:
  1. Ironsworn: Starforged solo — possibly with Sundered Isles, possibly mixed with original Ironsworn rules.
  2. Ironsworn: Starforged coop
  3. DND 5e 2014
  4. DND 5e 2024
Games that are sitting in my shelf staring at me, shaming me for buying them but not playing them:
  1. Coyote & Crow
  2. Fate Core
  3. 7th Sea
  4. Candela Obscura
  5. Print Weaver

I have found the discord, and I 'll have a look at Iron Vault. Thanks for the tips.
