Torchwood: Combat

Another creepy episode with lots of good character development.

Is Owen going over to 'the dark side'? Is Gwen going to start pulling a Suzie? Just how callous is Jack really?

And when the heck are they going to catch on to all the foreshadowing about "something in the dark and it's coming"?

Clearly the won't catch it until it is too late. Otherwise, what fun would it be?

You know, if they ever do a crossover between this and Doctor Who (and they're bound to, really), it's gonna be weird. The atmospheres of the two shows are totally different. While The Doctor deals with much bigger threats than Torchwood does, things are never as dark as an Torchwood. His personality would totally conflict with the Torchwood setup.

Of course, Jack will be appearing in the next series of Doctor Who (in three episodes, so I've heard). But when he's in Doctor Who, he lightens up big-time. Would The Doctor get all dark and gloomy in Torchwood?

"The first rule of Alien Fight Club..."

Not sure about this episode. While I really liked the character work surrounding Gwen and Owen, I felt Toshiko's objection to the treatment of the Weevil was poorly done (let's see: they're holding the thing in a pen permanently, with no chance of release or trial, and no notion of 'human' rights. Oh, and I'm not sure they wouldn't put a human through that sort of treatment, if the situation was sufficiently desperate).

Plus, I felt that the premise of the episode was rather too close to that of the film I referenced above. Still, it was far better than some episodes, and rather a solid 'Good', even if it was not as good as the previous three.

Not sure about this episode. Technically, they've already done that- in the second episode with the alien-possessed woman, and in the episode a few back with the guy who Suzie had poisoned with Retcon.

Definitely good, though perhaps not great. The first 6 or 7 eps failed to catch me, but man has this show ever gotten better. It's not even the same show as some of the earlier ones (thank god).

I also felt Toshiko's objection was out of place, but largely because that's Gwen's role. Since when has Toshiko exhibited that kind of conscience?

And that Captain Jack, he's one hell of a dark one.

I felt pretty 'meh' about this one. Right from the beginning it shouted 'fight club' to me, and didn't really deliver anything interesting on that count. Gwen's unethical attempt to gain absolution for her fling with Owen was an insight into her failing character, Jack was... what is the point of Jack again?
