Yeah, I heard that story on the radio news tonight. They had an excerpt from a 911 call from a passing motorist. Not surprisingly, she was more than a little overwrought.

Story says the guy got snagged in the truck's front grille after it was in motion, so I'd say circling before getting in wouldn't have helped this case. :)

But hey, free roller coaster ride for the guy in the wheelchair! Or something close to it. He wasn't upset at all, except for losing his drink- that's the mark of a ride enthusiast, I'd say.

Yeah, it turned out okay, but I doubt wheelchairs are meant to be ridden at 50 mph. The shockingly funny story could have been tragic.

The dude in the wheelchair should have made eye contact with the driver before going in front of the vehicle like a truck. That's the one thing that could have avoided even in a pedestrian accident when crossing the street whether there is a crosswalk or not.

With so many high-top SUV's on the road, you gotta make sure they can see you.

That guy is incredibly lucky. I mean, either it had to be stuck really really tight, or it would have had to be almost exactly straight. Because if the wheels were off at an angle, it probably would have dragged instead of rolled, and he'd have gotten pulled under along with the chair.

Which makes me wonder just how it happened. You'd almost think it was deliberate, because if he was crossing a street, the truck would have hit him from the side, not the back. Unless the guy in the wheelchair saw it coming and suddenly turned.

Er, the wheelchai guy was extremly lucky:
Happened some time ago (was a shockign news item), as a joke to be played by a gang of friends upon one of them who was to get married the next day.
The friends tied the guy to a chair on the case of a van and got to pretty high speed, so that the air hit the guy on the face. The air was making such force that the guy wasn't able to exhale, he asphixiated. Tragic indeed.

I think the truck was going at pretty slow speeds when it hit him. It possibly hit him at an angle, but as the truck moved forward it tipped the wheelchair into the position you see in the photo, at which point the other handle got stuck as well. If it had tipped him into the other angle, where he was perpendicular to the truck instead of parallel, then he probably would've gone under.

He also could've turned away from the truck at the last minute as he realized it was coming too fast.
