Tough transition - 2nd to 3.5

I played in an attempt to update GDQ to 3.X, and have to say that its not an easy conversion. The main problem is just how NASTY giants are in the current ruleset. For their CR, they are without a doubt the greatest beatsticks around.

I'm not familar with the other mods, so I can't say, but let me throw in my recommendation of The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh and its sequels.

I don't think you will find it any better to try to relive the nostalgia of the old adventures. You'll probably hear comments like, "Remember how great this was before d20 screwed it up!?" There's just too much great new stuff to play without rehashing the classics. I recently sold off all my AD&D stuff. It's just not worth going backward. Find some new classics.

I think the problem with that answer is that you can't really judge what's "classic" until some time has passed. We're still in the middle of the 3.x ruleset. So, which 3.x mods stand the test of time and are classics? Ask me again in 10 years. ;)

Have you checked out the products of a company called Necromancer Games and a company called Goodman Games? If not, you may want to - www.necromancergames.com and www.goodmangames.com . They make modules that are true 3E and 3.5e modules, but they have a lot of the nostalgic twists and turns that make such a module reminiscent of older versions of D&D. They may not be the same adventures of your youth, but they certainly play a lot like them. :) ESPECIALLY the Rappan Athuk series.

We have run Crucible of Freya and are in the midst of the Tomb of Abysthor by Necromancer Games. They are worth the investment if that is the style you are looking for (it is what I am looking for right now).
