toughness change

As everybody has said, NWN uses +1/level and it's fine. I know with my wizard I would never take toughness. Feats are too precious to them.

What feats do most people give their first level wiz anyway? SF got nerfed, and now many people think its a wasted feat. Not a lot of metamagics are item creations to take... and spell mastery? With those choices, toughness doesn't seem too bad.

I've had plenty of times where I was 2 hp away from going under, or 2 hp away from dieing. And that's often enough.

I gave my NWN sorcererer Toughness, but now I am wondering why... there is a 'reload' fuction afterall :)

+1 per level should be fine. I currently have 2+(1/2 your level).

I would think that +1 every level would NOT be unbalanced at all. By higher levels, a character can get magic items that raise Con. Those give you a retroactive hit point increase. What's another hit point into the mix. I think it would make the feat much more useful. Another variant is in the Netbook of Feats, if I remember correctly. If it isnt in that book, then I'll try to find it, but it scaled the feat. +3 the first time taken. +4 the second, and so forth.

Heh, there have been a TON of alternate Toughnesses on these boards over the past few years. It's not quite Harm-level houseruling, but it's close.

One suggestion that I liked involved making a Feat chain, so that you didn't feel so badly about taking a weaker Feat. So, the base Toughness gave +1 HP/level, then Dwarf's Toughness gave the ability to stay conscious while at negative HP, then Giant's Toughness gave DR, then Dragon's Toughness gave something nice I can't remember.

The problem is, you really start overlapping into Barbarian territory if you do this; a Fighter with +1 HP/level is just a fighter with a d12 HD, and if you start letting him get DR, why play a Barbarian?

Cause the barbarian has a ton of other ablities that the fighter cant get. He can rage, uncanny dodge, rage, trap sense; did I mention RAGE?
