Traditions - Cleric

Middle of leveling up characters... Cleric VI special benefit reads "You gain the Virtue of your god". Thats it. Umm. Yeah. What does that actually do? The cost of taking this last rank in Cleric is significantly higher that individual purchase off the 'good stuff' from the class.

Diabolist V gains the Virtue of Evil and rolls a random extra benefit.. which makes that a bit better. At least update the Cleric to have a random extra benefit when they gain the Virtue of their god.

It appears that the plan is to encourage generalist over specialist, however my group agrees that the capstone level benefits should make it worthwhile. So either rescale the benefits or make being a mortal with a Virtue have significant mechanical effects beyond being able to be targeted by spells.

Additionally, please look at the 'advanced' careers like Alchemy and Berserker. Both of these are linked to a race which bypasses the entry requirements. Those not of that race are virtually locked out. I agree to having some races be 'better' at some careers, but I don't think the delta should be that significant. Alchemist requires either Grand Elf or Rank III in Herbalist.

Oh, and looking forward to updated traditions! :)

Archer tradition Rank II benefit is 'standard quality bow becomes a high quality bow'... as written, as soon as the archer gains a high-quality bow he/she forgets how to take care of bows. Was this intended?

I would recommend changing to "You know how to maintain your equipment your equipment in a what that improves its effectiveness. As long as you spend an hour each day maintaining your bow, it is treated as if it is one level higher quality. A standard bow would be considered High quality, a Mastercraft bow would be considered an Artisan quality."

I recommend swapping the Mage rank IV and rank V abilities. The signature spell list is a much better capstone ability than your familiar being able to deliver touch based spells.

In the New playtest document, the exploit 'Recklessness' now reads 'gain +1D6 to attacks, enemies gain +2D6 to attacks against you until the start of your next turn'.
This change makes 'Reckless' a non-option in my groups opinion. Most attacks against the PCs will hit with that level of bonus, and the +1D for the PC is a minor boost. The idea of a 'reckless' attack being the guy that charges headlong into a mass of enemies doesn't mesh with these mechanics. With these mechanics the person who would take 'reckless' is the archer/gunman who stands in 'reckless' overwatch against the charging {melee} hordes.

Think of them like prestige classes. The idea is that Alchemist is something a starting character aspires to, not begins with.

That's what it's designed for, yep. Much more a N.E.W. thing than an O.L.D. thing in my mind.
