TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

Well, if you can just wait a bit longer (a week or two) we'll have a print version out, which will include errata, some additional design discussions, and maybe a couple of extra bitz.

We'll be printing through Amazon's POD service, so it will be (a) good quality and (b) easy to order right off Amazon.
Thanks for the quick reply!

I think my brain is shutting down. Between manopause and these senior moments, it's amazing I get anything done. I'm looking at the BMB/spells per rest information, sorcerer bonus spell slots, and wizard bonus readied spells, and I'm just not seeing how all of these fit together.

I'm very interested in this. Please keep us infomed on the main page and in forums when it comes out. Thanks!

Feel free to pop me an email for an easy POD sale...

No worries Mark. Do you have any specific questions?

Wizards have more ready spells (ie, versatility) and sorcerers have more spell slots.

A sorcerer might have 2 spells readied at his highest level, but 4 spell slots to cast them (firing off the same two spells many times); a wizard might have 4 spells ready at his highest level, but only 2 slots to cast them.

It's actually very similar to the wizard-sorcerer relationship you're used to with 3e.

One question: what about spells that can be cast as single-target or area spells? Like Grease or Dispel Magic.

One suggestion: Feats that allow a caster to change some of his lower-level spells restricted spells to rote spells. For example, Fireball should be a restricted spell, especially when you first get it ... but if you're throwing around delayed blast fireballs, maybe it's worth treating the normal one as a rote spell.

I think I got it. For example, let's compare a 4th-level sorcerer with a 16 Charisma and a 4th-level wizard with a 16 Intelligence. Both casters have a +4 BMB. They each get a bonus 1st and 2nd-level spell due to their high relevant ability score.

The sorcerer gets two bonus 0-level spell slots, a bonus 1st-level spell slot, and a bonus 2nd-level spell slot. The wizard gets two bonus readied 1st-level spells and two bonus readied 2nd-level spells.

All of these bonuses get added to the four 0-level, three 1st-level, and two 2nd-level spell slots/spells readied granted by a +4 BMB.

So, the sorcerer can ready four 0-level spells, four 1st-level spells, and three 2nd-level spells. He can cast six 0-level spells, five 1st-level spells, and four 2nd-level spells per rest.

In comparison, the wizard can ready four 0-level spells, six 1st-level spells, and five 2nd-level spells. He can cast four 0-level spells, four 1st-level spells, and three 2nd-level spells per rest.

Did I pass?

:D

The sorc should have 6 1st-level spell slots - you've must have missed one somewhere (3 base, +1 for Cha 16, +1 at sorc 1, +1 at sorc 2).

Does that make sense?

Correct!

As of now, I'd say both spells would be restricted.

Good point. We will definitely be taking a look at all the spells for the "magic book".
