Damn, the foe is Chaos. Makes sense, but I was hoping for a foe to make the Space Marines look less like the clear cut "good" guys.

This looks more like a video game trailer than a movie... I don't know...
The Ultramarines' animation kinda bugs me. I feel this cinema scene was better...

Well, it kind of doesn't make sense. If you pick Ultramarines as your 'iconic' marines, then you probably should also pick their iconic nemesis, the Tyranids. Those two have been at each others neck glands since 1989.

Personally I would have just dug up the old Space Marine novel from 1993. Although, then the movie would probably be R-rated. And it had space dwarves which by canon have become extinct. :p

Smurf were likely chosen because the are the most prominent of the marines. Nids were probably out of the running because using them would echo Starship Troopers too much. Chaos is win-win since chaos is a fairly popular army, they are a fairly blatant bag guy and the animators can save on not having to render / animate whole new models.
