Yup..they studio asked Aint it Cool to take it down....but looks like they didn't get to this other site. I hadn't heard about Bumblebee being a Camaro....that kind of sucks....he's a Beetle..

I've also heard that Sideswipe is going to be a Dodge Viper instead of any form of Lamborgini, which would be disturbing. Sounds like they might be getting a lot of marketing money from GM and Chrysler..

Can someone explain to me why these machine-beings from another planet look like Earth civilian vehicles?

I've read the wiki on Transformers, but it didn't explain it.

This may be the lowest depth of geekdom I have sunk to, but I think after their ship crashed, a probe went out from the wreckage and rebuilt/repaired all the bots in the image of what it saw, ie lots of cars. Thats what I remember from the original show anyway.

Well, as I have heard it, to the filmmaker's credit, they did ask Volkswagen if they could use the Beetle, and were denied the rights.

Stupid morons at Volkswagen! What were they thinking?

This is going to be a HUGE blockbuster movie and the vehicles that appear in it are going to be the "stars".

Back in Cybertron, the silicon-based life forms there eventually developed the ability to change between two shapes, their normal humanoid forms and the form of a vehicle. Those capable of this change were called Transformers, and were the main units in the civil war that ravaged Cybertron.

After an accident, a cybertronian spaceship called The Ark fell on Earth, and remained dormant for millions of years. Eventually it was disturbed and powered up. Following its programming, it sent out probes to scan for lifeforms. Earth's vehicles were considered the dominant life form, and the Ark proceeded to adapt the Transformers within it so their changed shapes would let them go about incospicous.

A few exceptions include prematurely-activated robots that were changed to resemble the dominant species of 70 million years ago, the Dinobots, and the Decepticon commander Shockwave, whose alternate form is still a space cannon.

When the Ark first crashed on Earth, the transformers lay dormant within it for millions of years. At some point, the bluff that the Ark had become embedded in eroded, or collapsed, revealing the ship. Their computers started working on self-repair, awakening the Transformers etc. The probes it sent out determined that they were on a planet populated by another race, and realized they'd have to disguise themselves. So it scanned all these machines....cars, planes, etc. and then used the scans to remap the alternate forms of the robots, so they could disguise themselves. Prior to that, on Cybertron, they were able to transform, but into Cybertron type shapes..

I think that's the explanation. I remember the first episode very vaguely....it was like 20 years ago...:)

Wasn't Shockwave's alternate form a ghetto-blaster? And he ejected these casette tapes from his deck/chest, that turned into a panther called "Ravage", and a vulture? Something like that? Or am I thinking of the wrong one?

I'm surprised I remember this :)
