Transformers Sighting

Wasn't Shockwave's alternate form a ghetto-blaster? And he ejected these casette tapes from his deck/chest, that turned into a panther called "Ravage", and a vulture? Something like that? Or am I thinking of the wrong one?

You're thinking of Soundwave, one of Megatron's number one guys. Shockwave was the Decepticon that Megatron left behind on Cybertron to keep control of the world while Megatron and many of the other Decepticons followed Optimus Prime and the fleeing Autobots to Earth.

Back in Cybertron, the silicon-based life forms there eventually developed the ability to change between two shapes, their normal humanoid forms and the form of a vehicle. Those capable of this change were called Transformers, and were the main units in the civil war that ravaged Cybertron.

After an accident, a cybertronian spaceship called The Ark fell on Earth, and remained dormant for millions of years. Eventually it was disturbed and powered up. Following its programming, it sent out probes to scan for lifeforms. Earth's vehicles were considered the dominant life form, and the Ark proceeded to adapt the Transformers within it so their changed shapes would let them go about incospicous.

A few exceptions include prematurely-activated robots that were changed to resemble the dominant species of 70 million years ago, the Dinobots, and the Decepticon commander Shockwave, whose alternate form is still a space cannon.
Shockwave is the commander?

Origionaly, Megatron was a pistol (and he shrunk in the cartoon), and Shockwave was a stereo (and had the cool transforming tapes)

I'm surprised I remember this :)

That's right, Shockwave was the purple gun guy.

In comics continuity, Shockwave outranked Megatron.

And to me, the one true Megatron will always change into a Walther PPK with silencer and stock.

Wow. I didn't know the Transformers' background explaining how/why they transform into Earth stuff. I learned something today. I always had a soft spot for Transformers, and the pics definitely make me want to watch the movie.

Soundwave was a walkman style tape recorder. Blaster, of the Autobots, what a ghetto blaster. He ended up with tapes too, although he didnt show up until much later.

Interesting geek moment: one of the technologies the Decepticons possessed early in the war was the ability to transform into forms much smaller than their robotic forms. Autobots didn't acquire this technology until later... hence why Blaster was a latecomer.

Yes, which allowed Megatron to turn into a giant-sized Walther PPK, or one sized for a Transformer to use, or one sized for human use.

Now imagine James Bond wielding Megatron...

People have trouble with Transformers changing size, but not with Star Fleet Officers teleporting from place to place....

Always seemed hypocritical to me to accept the one and not the other. I viewed the mass shifting as some sort of transporter technology that just saved the stored mass somewhere else, maybe as energy.

And Optimus' trailer I just assumed he left parked when he transformed.
