If your PC's are very gullible try this one out. It worked for me and I thought it was hilarious.

In the center of large room are two giant skulls with doors in their mouths. A booming voice instructs the party. One of these Doors leads to the next level of the dungeon, the other two certain death. You are allowed to ask one of the skulls one question. One Skull always lies the other always tells the truth.

Of coarse this is a cheap rip off of the movie Labyrinth but I havent gotten to the good part yet.

The riddle is easy to solve you ask one of hte skulls what the other skull would say the "safe" door is. You can derive the correct answer from what the skulls response is.

But here is the funny part. The second the PC's go to open either door the skulls come to life and bite down on whomever is trying to open the door. Most PC's will get so inot finding the correct answer to the riddle that they will forget that they are still walking into a giant skulls mouth.

It all comes down to you should be wary of any booming voice.

Also I love throwing mundane "traps" at PC's pools of water and tiled floors freek PC's out. They might spend a good ten minutes trying to avoid these obstacles while you just snicker to yourself thinking,"Its just a pool of water" If you don't humiliate your players for being overly cautious then they will be overly cautious every chance they get.

For epic level I might throw a completely magic-less dungeon at them filled with Indiana Jones-type traps. The magic user types will start to run out of utility spells early as often they stock up on attack/bonus spells instead of 'pass wall'. Once they start taking serious damage from spiked logs rolling down narrow corridors the party cleric will start to run out of spells as well. They will rest, but don't give them any monsters for several days as they meander through empty halls full of invisible caltrops. Also, make it so none of the traps are activated by summon critters. Once they are chewed up pretty good and the cleric & wizard have less damage spells, throw a powerful lich + entourage with plenty of enhanced magic things that have turning resistance at them the next time they rest.

Grab issue 306 of Dragon. 25 unique magical traps that I found extremely interesting. Very few were lethal most of the alerting/delaying/capturing kind. From Cr1 to Cr11 (I think that was the highest). These would make a dungeon quite challenging.

Sorry didn't see that is was for an epic campaign (bad cow read whole post next time!). If you could figure out a way to jack up the save DCs some of the traps could be useful I guess.

Do you have any idea yet what you want to do for the dungeon? Does it have a theme we can base traps and puzzles around? I mean, c'mon, every good dungeon needs a history.

I am wary to post to much info on the dungeon but I will say that it will have an undead/evil theme.. I 'spose I could also throw in that it's a castle :D
