Travelling Light to games

Thanks for the offer, but I can ask my FLGS (Hairy Tarantula) to get it in, they usually can get stuff. Mail from South Africa to Canada is probably even more expensive anyway.

I'm a Mr. Suitcase type. I bring stuff for the whole group to use, so I rarely travel light.

To help me out, I went to a cheap luggage store (on Harry Hines, for those of you in D/FW) and picked up a full-sized piece of rolling luggage for under $50. It carries 4 full-sized Chessex minis boxes, 1 small Chessex minis box, a shoebox of oversized minis, 2 PHBs, all of the softcover class books (its a 3.0 campaign), several sets of dice, pencils, erasers, and calculators.

I carry the 5'x10' battlemat in a portfolio tube.

I found that it is easiest to just stop needing to look things up in books. I just take my campaign binder and the module I'm running. All monster stats and things I might need to book up are either in the module or in the notebook.

In addition to the laptop thing, I've found that the most effective way to lighten your load is to play a game other than D&D that doesn't have as many supplements to plug into as D&D. :)

(Actually I am serious, but there you go.)

I also do the laptop thing.

Hi,

My Monday night game is in a pub in central London and I also come straight from work. I try and only bring the three core books, the adventure (Red Hand of Doom) and my notes. I get the players to bring Spell Compendium and other stuff they need. Because it's in a pub, I don't bring any minis in case they get chipped: we use the Counter Collection counters and a battlemat.

When I ran my Pirates of the Caribbean game (see sig), I used quite a lot of monsters from other books but used to scan the relevant page from MMIII or whatever and put in my binder. I did use to carry more than this but ended up doing my back in!

Cheers

Richard

For me it depends on if I plan to level or not that week. If not, I bring very little, but on level ing -up nights, I bring a whole lot more. Teh DM and I won virtually every book we need, so at elast we can split the load on leveling-up nights.

Hi All,

What I would really like from the DI is a purchase and print on demand function or partial pdf function. As a player if you have a multi-class character with dips in several prcs, you can end up taking 5-6 books to each session. Yes, I could type all the relevant parts into a word doc and print it, but I don't have the time to do that. And yes, I could purchase the WotC pdfs as they come available, but as I already own the books and only use parts of each, I don't want to purchase the whole book again, this time in pdf form.

Not sure how WotC could do it, but if they could give us the option of purchasing pdf or print on demand products that could be selections (we choose) from the various books, I'd be a customer for that.

Thanks,
Rich

A laptop or pocket computer, a set of dice (if, like me, you can't stand the idea of electronic die rollers at the table), a GM screen (or a light external monitor for your laptop if you can afford the smallest and lightest one), and an agreement with your gaming location to leave your overhead projector/roll-up map/miniatures there.

This is all in theory for me. I tend to carry only books, and I've been struggling to find a way to lighten my load.
