Treasure in the WLD

Is there any reason why my players should be picking up the mundane treasure and jewels in the world's largest dungeon? I mean if there is no way for them to get to a city, isn't it just extra weight?

It's just extra weight. But, as we all know, players are greedy.

Yup, and if some of them are picking up a lot of mundane things, and not keeping track properly of their encumberance/weight, you should keep a secret tally and enforce it in the toughest of situations...like when they have to flee from something...to teach them a lesson they will never forget...

well we are using DM genie, so I can easily keep track of their weight, and before walking in the front door of the dungeon, they were all on the verge of being medium loads.

Also, on a site note, under the spellbooks section of the intro it says that spells like web are devastating and be careful to allow them, since they didn't allow the bad guys to have them. However the kobold wizard my group encountered in their first session had web prepared and it was in his spellbook...

I don't own it, so I don't know the why's and wherefore's of all that. Ya know, there's a huge thread on the WLD that has scads of information on it. You might want to look through a few pages and find that so you don't have to start new threads as you get deeper into running it. I'll bet a lot of the early questions are answered in that thread (whereever it is).

Can you use money to bribe some creatures that would otherwise be hostile?

Presumably one of the reasons to remove the items is to prevent other creatures in the dungeon from using them to equip themselves. No point leaving a bunch of weapons lying around only to have the next goblin kill you with the very same weapon. At the least you can destroy weapons or items you're not going to use, or protect them somehow from other critters getting their hands on them.

Those misc jewels etc could be used for the money equivelent for expensive spell components. The Web spell in the spell book is an error. It should have been a scroll and it should be used on the players.
