I did not see anything from the OP asking for a "core rules with no reference to the FAQ" analysis anywhere.

Discussing the FAQ is ALWAYS appropriate in a rules discussion.

It is, of course, fine to say things like "for what's it's worth", or "I don't like the FAQ, but..., or whatever, but it's not fair to folks asking for advice to totally disregard the FAQ to the point that you won't even tell them what it says.

I'm with Artoomis on this 100%.

If you don't like the FAQ, that's fine, but its every bit as valid a subject of discussion as any other in this forum.
 

Oddly enough I'm not a huge fan of the FAQ. I disagree with a large number of their rules interpretations, which is ironic since in most cases they wrote the rules... Frankly I've always found rules of the game to be a far more agreeable resource.

Still, it's certainly reasonable grounds for discussion on a rules topic. I mean that was the entire purpose of writing the FAQ one assumes.
