Trithemis Gasketz

Tinker Gnome

Adventurer
I did not make this NPC, a friend of mine from another forum did. He was based off of the way I acted on that board a lot. :)

Well my DM has just started a new campaign, and I finally decided to try playng a drow. After doing a gnoll paladin, I decided that paradoxes were very much my style...and so I created the Drow Techsmith of Gond! The Techsmith is a prestige class in the Faiths and Pantheons book. Also I based his personality off you somewhat...hehehe Tell me if you like him. A good-aligned drow who Drizzt would LOVE to just strangle...

I heard you liked Gond and Lantan...so I thought you'd find it interesting. Trithemis is a male drow, neutral good, cleric(Gond)7/Techsmith1. He is 94, and has spiky, short cropped white hair that is slightly burnt at the tips. His eyes are orange...and flash insanely, and he drools slightly from the corner of his mouth. If he is not actively trying to keep quiet, he sometimes cackles to himself. For an elf, he is pretty clumsy and prefers his straightforward warhammer-and-buckler in battle and casts spells. He hangs workshop tools from the links in his chain shirt. He dislikes tyranny and wanton destruction not only because of the suffering it causes but because it also stifles creativity and industry.

His story goes as follows:

"Hello. I am a drow. My name is Trithemis Gasketz. I used to live in the Underdark. But it doesn't matter, does it? Down there, everyone seems to like spiders...yeah its Lloth and all but I'm not interested. So one day I catch a tarantula and keep it as a pet for a while, looking how its legs move and feeding it roaches from the kitchen of my humble abode in what everyone calls the slum district. For money to survive, I make hand crossbows to sell to a wholesaler. For fun, I make MACHINES!

Everyone thinks I'm mad, but only *I* know otherwise, hehehe. Its not just machines...but listen, I made a discovery. They all say I'm mad for this, but...shhh...I found out that after you are done making something, if you BELIEVE it will work, and love it, and have lots of faith in it...it DOES WORK!!!MWUHAHAHA!!!

Sometimes I'm so overcome by the memory of the discovery, I explode into laughter, joyous, divine laughs!

And to prove my point...

I make this cutesy little machine with jiggly legs just like the tarantula and...gods...its sooo beautiful! I kissed it, hugged it, cuddled it when I slept...and finally prayed to it for it to work...and then it did! I let the live tarantula go...this one was a better pet!

Some say drow like me get killed real quick. I disagree. I know its dangerous out there but when I go out and tell someone in the street about my work and laugh happily, everyone just tries to stay far, far away from me. No one even comes near my house, with all the moving, happy, machine bits on the path in front.

Ah well, they also say there is a fine line between MADNESS and GENIUS! One day I even bring Jiggly (thats what I named him) to the Temple of Lloth to show all the pretty spider priestesses...but they threw me out, 'confiscated' my crossbows and tried to stomp Jiggly. They said even Lloth wouldn't want a sacrifice like me...but thats not the point. Don't you get it? Those beastly women tried to kill a living MACHINE - a labor of sweat and LOVE!!!

I grabbed Jiggly, my notes, a few small tools and my favorite crossbow and left the Underdark. OH YEAH, thats what you get for offending the maker of your precious crossbows! Then I saw the guards. Thats when I looked at Jiggly and knew we had to work together to SURVIVE. You know what...Jiggly DIED to save me that day by skittering over the guards' feet while I ran. The guards chased him and got distracted....*sob* that look in his glassy eyes told me he'd be back...But he was cruelly trampled into bits under the boot of a servant of Lloth

So i run and run and run. I swore I would avenge the death of Jiggly, my one, true friend! Then I ran until I was too tired, and i sat down and just mourned Jiggly. Then deep gnomes found me. They tried to kill me...but i told them I didn't care anyway...I had no workshop...no Jiggly...what was the point in living? They looked at each other for a bit and took me to their city.

I spent many happy years making crossbows for them. They gave me materials, workshop and food, and I needed nothing more. And in my spare time I slowly concocted my revenge on the minions of Lloth...an upgraded, BIGGER, MEANER version of Jiggly to stomp them BACK! But had no time to even make the prototype...one day the gnomes told me to follow some adventurers to the surface because it would be dangerous if other drow found them keeping me.

Tough...everyday fight, eat, sleep...can't stop and make things. I didn't want treasure...I just wanted a good workshop. I didn't take any treasure for myself until finally when we got to the bright surface, someone just used a whole lot of money and shipped me off to the Isles of Lantan, promising me I'd definitely find a workshop there, and that she could 'take that nice but insane drow out of her hair'. I barely had a chance to thank her and then I had to go.

Lantan is pure PARADISE! Machines are everywhere! And people liked me not just for my crossbows...they like ME! They don't care if I'm a 'drow grease-monkey' as long as I build good machines! They said I was destined for great things that even a workshop can never contain! They told me to make an offering at the Temple of Gond.

I was scared and thought i would have to sacrifice a male drow like myself...like the Llothian priestesses did. But when I went there...I felt a familiar feeling. Its like the time Jiggly first wriggled his legs...the feeling of pure wonder and discovery! I knew immediately, what Gond would want. I placed the original copy of Jiggly's schematics on the altar...and felt bliss. Its like having the whole world as your workshop. Its like the enemies of all machines have been crushed underfoot. Its like after that, Jiggly's soul could rest at last.

I had learnt my true purpose."

Also he now has a Gondsman (a sentient magical construct)...its named Jiggly MK 2 and resembles a 5 ft mechanical spider with two human-looking arms protruding from the top. It is the co-pilot of his Apparatus of Kwalish...a vehicle that looks like a huge metal lobster and acts the part.
