Tron d20?

Mortaneus

First Post
Tron was always one of my favorite movies. I remember re-painting a frisbee to look like one of the data disks when I was a kid. I might still have it around somewhere.

Anyway, here's an interview with the creator of the original:

Hey, here's an idea....how about a d20 version? How would you write up the world of tron as a d20 campaign setting? How would the discs work? Users? Bits?

Hmm.

Cycles: You are definitly going to need a map to pull this off- square grid, ideally.

Turning into a cycle would be a full round action.

Cycles can only move at the hustle speed of the character- no more or less. (granted, it should be a lot quicker, but I don't have that much map space).

To make a turn (and only 90 degree turns are an option)- you need to make a pilot (cycle) check DC: 15 with a +1 for every 5ft that player has yet to move that turn.

For example: The player moves 5ft forward, then wants to turn left. He has 55 feet left to move- so the DC would be 26.

Other options for pilot skill difficulty modifiers would be concentration checks when driving/turning next to an existing wall. ( I picture driving down a "hallway" of walls- not knowing if it is a dead end or where it might turn next would be pretty scary.)

A failed pilot check means the person continues to move forward (which may lead to a collision).

Collisions: Hmm- they looked instantly fatal, but that would not be much fun. You could either apply falling damage for the amount of space moved- or immediately knock the person down to 0 hp.

If the collision is with another bike, then both sides take double damage.

Respectfully submitted

Tron's Character sheet?

Lawful Good Paladin.

Tron uses the VP/WP system of Star Wars, along with it's rules on AC coming from your level, so he never wears armor.

His weapon of choice is the disk.

High dexterity for piloting the cycles, accurately throwing the disk, and some of his combat moves. Good diplomacy and sense motive skills -- he recognized the "user" even when the user's energy had been turned red. A relatively high charisma -- he gets the ladies. ;)

And I would say Paladin because he could fight, he could interact with others, and he had a direct line outside the system -- this world's version of the gods!

No, no no! Each bike takes double damage, divided by two, because there are two bikes!

so they take the same amount of damage as a normal collision? Or am I just confused?

2 * damage / 2 = damage

Or do you mean doubling all the damage done between the two bikes and dividing that evenly between them?

I mean that if two objects moving toward each other at the same speed collide, they each suffer damage equal to that of colliding with a wall at the same speed. If they each suffered double damage, that's a whole lot of extra energy created out of nothing.

Ok, I see what you are saying- I was not thinking physics since it is all energy, and, iirc, the cycles exploded (iirc) when a collision occurred.

The walls didn't- so two explosions would hurt both of them.

Familiars-

There is one type (the flying yes/no thing- sorry, I have not seen the movie in some time).

It flies- and instead of the standard array of familiar powers- it gets divinations powers useable per day. Augury 2/day.

Anyone can gain a familiar, but double the xp cost for non-casters(or do we call them programmers?).

There is no penalty for losing a familiar.
