Troubles with Fire Shield

Alrighty, it always helps to quote the direct text as that SRD quote is a bit misleading. Here's the relevant text from the spell.

PHB, Flame Shield: "Any creature striking you with it's body or a handheld weapon deals normal damage, but at the same time the attacker takes 1d6 points of damage +1 point per caster level (max +15)."

Anytime the caster is struck the opponent takes the damage.

Ah, but the PHB writeup also starts with "This spell wreathes you in flame and causes damage to each creature that attacks you in melee."

It's very badly written, that spell.

And then the spell's text goes on to clarify exactly when damage is applied to opponents that attack you in melee in the following paragraph.

It's very badly written, that spell.

Definately not one of the clearest spells in the phb... :p

Man, I bow down to you all. Zen masters, you are.

How about this then? You cast stoneskin, polymorph into something big and strong, cast fireshield (and stay within 5ft of your familiar who enjoys all these spells via the share spell ability as long as he doesn't move farther away...
