True Rituals

How many people have used or will use True Rituals from Relics and Rituals? MY group has yet to use one, but I'd really like for them to.

Also, I've been thinking of a new True Ritual that would work better for my character than the Lich and Vampire rituals. What do folks think about one that grants the Celestial Template? What level should that be, and what requirements might it have? I've got a few ideas of my own, but would love some input before I put them down on paper.

I have used them. My players -- in order to return to the "home" game world -- had to (among other tasks) find a priest devoted to a specific deity to do the ritual that would open a gate.

As for the celestial thing... I think I remember seeing something that gave the caster a fiend template, but don't remember if it was a true ritual / S&SS thing or not...
 

There was a spell in DofT that did that. Also there's Fiend Form from Magic of Faerun.

I haven't had much of a chance just yet but I was hoping to try to use the druidic ritual "Heal the Land" as part of a way of restoring a small portion of the ruins around Lokil.

As for the true ritual, I think it would be interesting BUT I'd also maybe give it a kind of varient so that you'd get something special, like a Trumpet Archon's trumpet or some other special ability along with a half-celestial template stuff. At least that's me. :)

No, no. I know about that. I mean I thought I saw some spell or effect that permanently added the half-fiend template. Hmmm...
 

Permanently?! Hm well I don't believe I've seen it...but I'll check my stuff. Let me know where. I'd be curious to see who did that.
 

Actually I wasn't even thinking about the half-celestial template, I thought that might be too powerful.

How's this sound:

Closer to Divinity

Level: True Ritual - Wiz 5
Components: V, S , M, XP
Casters required: 3
Proxy: Yes - Celestials totalling 20 Hit Dice per caster
Range: Close
Target: One or more Creatures
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

Often offered as a gift by the powers of Good, this spell has seen very few uses, but those who have recieved its benefits have almost always gone on to perform great deeds.

Spell Effect:

The target(s) of this True Ritual gain the Celestial Template. Up to one target per caster level may be affected. The target must be willing to recieve these benefits, and must be in good favor of one or more Celestial Powers.

Material Component: ritual materials costing 1,000gp. Additionally, all targets must sacrifice an object of importance to them worth at least 15,000gp.

XP Cost: 1,000xp per caster.
 

Mm well that works for me. I might lower it to say 4th level but no lower than that. Celestial template is a good choice, though I don't think giving a half-celestial template is necessarily a BAD thing.
 

It isn't a bad thing, but it would probably have to wait until later in my party's careers. Maybe this would be the stepping stone to the 9th level version that grants the half-celestial template.
 

Sounds good to me James. I do think 8th level isn't a bad thing...but 9th is fine too. I'd probably use some kind of relic that's has some goodly aligned nature to it, like a book or a powerful holy symbol, as part of the material cost. DEFINATELY in the 200 K-500 range. Plus some personal sacrifice along with 1d4 days worth of prayer for the recipent.
 

Well, considering the level of my party currently, there's little difference between a 5th level and 4th level ritual. By the time they get to it, there'll be little deifference between 8th and 9th as well.
