[True Story] And darn scary

Oh your car definetly loves you. If my car did something like that, outside of bugging me all the time, I would start believing in ghost stories too.

Heh... ever since I got a car with a remote, I got in the habit on ONLY ever locking it with the remote, thus lowering the probability of locking my keys in.

One of my old cars (a junky old Storm) had a plastic key embedded in a credit card for such occasions. That also worked well.

Most everyone is avoiding the discussion on the mysterious legs and the magically unlocking door. I can't say that I blame them. It is a touchy subject loaded with personal beliefs.

I assume you've missed all the threads about the supernatural over the past few weeks then. There's been plenty of discussion about such things recently - I think people aren't talking about it in this thread not because they want to avoid the subject but just find plans for avoiding locking your keys in the car a more interesting topic at the mo...

I will relate my own story. I am a hardcore science & logic guy, but even I have had trouble explaining this one ...

My first year of college (88/89) I worked in a video store and frequently closed up and got home about 1:00am. I would also usually take a video home with me to watch after work. I would site VERY close to Tv, about 2 feet, so as to not wake up the rest of the people in the house. I would also usually balance the chair on the rear two legs. Off to the right, about 10-12 feet away was the northwall of the home, which had a fireplace.

Once night after work I pulled up my chair and put in a movie. After awhile I suddenly got ICE cold and my heart started racing. Coming towards me from the fireplace wall was a 'stereotypical' ghost of an old woman. Stereotypical because the lower portion was missing , the middle indistinct, and the upper portion had detail; she was ghostly white and all as I remember it. I tried to scream and could not. My chair then plunked down and she was gone.

Maybe I dozed off and imagined the whole thing, and maybe I didn't. The resembelance to a classic movie ghost makes me think I probabally just imagined it, but then again, I was there and didn't seem like a dream. Nothing like it every happened to me before, and nothing since.

Seems to me you did a fine job oe explaining it! :) We've all imagined or hallucinated some pretty strange stuff when half-asleep.

What is more likely ?

a) Ghosts exist... they like Hammocks and show up from fireplaces scaring people.

b) People have very active brains, imagination and are also extemely visual creatures too.

My Wicca friend said that when your half awake/half asleep we are more open to spiritual experiences. I am a skeptic... and even then I have experienced something similar when half asleep. Little elemental demon of sorts landing on my tummy when I was lying on the couch watching TV. Not much fun.... but who knows what it was ?

Hey! You are right! I vaguely remember seeing a thread for supernatural stuff. It must have dropped off my recent posts meter. Comes from checking too often from work. :( Heck, it probably has a lot of posts too, so it isn't like I should have easily missed it.

Maybe I should go looking for that later...

Anyway, keys in car: I actually use that as an interview question. "How many times have you locked your keys in your car?" I'm sure it seems like an odd question. It's not like I am grading them on the answer. I want to hear how they react to adversity and frustration. And how they accomodate a bad situation and avoid it in the future. The answers end up being interesting.
