True Strike balance?

If there were a metamagic feat that let you cast a personal range spell as a touch spell for +2 levels, would you think a potion of true strike would be balanced as a 3rd level spell?

I don't think such a metamagic feat would be balanced in the slightest. But if you're going to allow something like that, I would allow the situation that you speak of (I would see it as the least of your problems :) ).

Yes, I think it would be balanced fine as a 3rd level spell.

Such a feat would open up a can of worms when applied to other spells, but that's another matter, heh.

Righteous Might for everyone!

Actually, I wouldn't have that much of a problem with righteous might as a 7th or 8th level, buff-anyone spell. Look at greater heroism, wiz/sor 6, for a comparison. It also does less violence to my suspension of disbelief than people routinely polymorphing into frost giants or trolls.

A bow of true strike (at will) costs something between 2k and 3k IIRC and is in Magic of Faerûn.
4000 gp (+1 Composite +1 longbow w/ true strike at will), and it's in Sword and Fist.

Pretty much balanced IMO.

Edit: Hey, look! A second page! :\

Not to hijack the thread, but I do allow such a feat imc and so far it hasn't been too powerful (though I've considered increasing the cost to +3, but I think that's too much vs. Enlarge or Widen Spell).

In conjunction with another feat- Mass Spell, which is sorta like chain spell- we end up with things like Mass Bestowed mirror image as a 7th level spell, which seems about right to me (basically get a mirror image for everyone).

Extremely useful for the wizard casting an empowered enervation or empowered disintegrate or maximised empowered scorching ray and who doesn't want to waste their spell with a pesky miss :)

This matches my opinion of true strike also. So long as it requires a standard action to activate, it's just not that powerful in the hands of most fighter types. In the hands of a wizard/sorcerer who has a powerful ranged touch spell though...that can get nasty in a hurry.

It is hardly difficult for a Wizard to put together brutal combinations. Executing them in play to conspicuous advantage is another matter entirely.

Do I True Strike? Or Haste the entire party? Hmmm....
