True Strike + Cleave

I would have to assume from the way the True Strike Spell reads that this is not possible but, I'm going to ask for other peoples interpretations also...

From 3.5 SRD
CLEAVE (GENERAL)
Prerequisites: Str 13, Power Attack.
Benefit: If you deal a creature enough damage to make it drop (typically by dropping it to below 0 hit points or killing it), you get an immediate, extra melee attack against another creature within reach. You cannot take a 5-foot step before making this extra attack. The extra attack is with the same weapon and at the same bonus as the attack that dropped the previous creature. You can use this ability once per round.
Special: A fighter may select Cleave as one of his fighter bonus feats.

From 3.5 SRD
True Strike
Divination
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: See text
You gain temporary, intuitive insight into the immediate future during your next attack. Your next single attack roll (if it is made before the end of the next round) gains a +20 insight bonus. Additionally, you are not affected by the miss chance that applies to attackers trying to strike a concealed target.
Focus: A small wooden replica of an archery target.

If you are under the the effect of a true strike spell, and you successfuly down your target as described under the cleave feat, would you continue to gain the benefit of the true stike spell for your cleave attack?

Stickly speaking by the cleave description you would, however by the true stike spell you wouldn't. Which one takes presedence? How would others run it? By the way I read it, it's shouldn't carry on to your cleave attacks...

thoughts?

It says single attack roll, so no. Watch out, I'm about to bust out with some serious codespeak here:

"Your Cleave gets the same bonus as the original attack, which is +20 for a single attack roll and none for additional attack rolls."

No.

True Strike take precedence. It only applies to one roll. So, even a critical threat with True Strike does not get the +20 on the second roll.

You get the same "normal bonuses" (i.e. BAB with any modifiers for all round game elements like Power Attack) with Cleave, but you can have other bonuses with either the first or second attack that does not apply to the other.

For example, if the first target is not prone and the second target is prone, you would get +4 with the second attack, regardless of what your plusses to hit were with the first attack.

The purpose of that terminology is for things like full round attack where you get +16/+11/+6/+1. If the attack that takes down the opponent is the +11 one, you get +11 on your cleave attack, not the +6 which is next in line.

That's not the best example any more; "Defender Prone" is no longer an attack bonus in 3.5, but an AC penalty.

I'm quite fond of using the Higher Ground bonus as an example myself :)

So can you use power attack with your +20??

ciaran

You can only Power Attack up to your BAB. But, True Strike is a nice way to offset your Power Attack in some situations.

I built a 3.0 NPC that was Ftr5/Sor9. Her gimmick, while hasted, was to True Strike with a Power Attack/Sunder. PC's hated her.
