True20 "Borrowed Time" setting - Used it?

Wraith Form

Explorer
I've been reading a lot of negativity about the Borrowed Time setting on other sites (well, more properly, feats--I could care less about the "setting" per se).

I was thinking about introducing them into my D&D campaign, but I'm a new(-ish) DM and don't want to make more work for myself / make my life a living hell by adding the feats if they're busted.

Have you used the rules? Were they overpowered and/or broken? Did you fix them if yes, and how?

Any input would be helpful and appreciated.

I hadn't even read the setting until you posted. Te mini settings definately weren't a selling point for me, and I never even gave them a thorough glance. I'll read through tomorrow and give my opinion, but tonight... it's late.

Did you mean your True20 campaign, or do you plan to convert these feats and use them in d20?

I first considered using them, but after a careful read, I thought the Borrowed Times feats weren't interesting.

I don't see anything wrong with using them (so long as you also use conviction or some other expendable resource to power them). If anything, they feel a bit weak compared to what an Extreme Explorer from Eberron can do.

Personally I think they lack flavor and cohesion, but I think they'd work fine if you like them.

d20 D&D, actually. My players were going to find a book that explained how the time-borrowing functions, thus "unlocking" the feats for them. Overpowered feats were going to be on "missing" pages that were torn out of the book, and if they wanted to hunt down the pages they could use the feats. Naturally the bad guy who owns the book will have read it and already knows how to use one of the lower-powered feats (Between Moments, likely). His special abilities should throw my players for a loop!

I don't have "conviction" in my game, but I have my ways around that. ;)

For what it's worth, I happen to like these rules, and think they would work quite well for a simulated "matrix" type effect.

I think in more general terms, they would also form the basis for an interesting set of stunt rules for D20. I'd suggest that everyone that owns True20 take another look at them: they're quite good, and I'd like to see more done with them.

Now the Borrowed Time setting? Didn't interest me that much. But the crunch was very good.

And really, that's exactly what I was trying to ask about--"crunch". Setting? Bleh.

I have other questions about a specific feat, but I'm at work...I'll ask a little later when I have the book in front of me.
